In my defense, I haven't seen Russ Feingold's other interviews, just clips on the news and "The Daily Show". And he remained calm and civil, in that people need to be held accountable but he's not trying to be ugly. I think it was polite--and politic--to not talk about the other congressionals, but he could have offered a disclaimer: "You'd have to ask them" or something along those lines.
I have to admit it seems desperate of him to appear on "The Daily Show", it comes across as pandering and trying to get his name out. He could have actually showed up in person if that was his motivation. (I suppose it's hypocritical to not say the same thing about Barak Obama, but at least Obama wasn't so obvious in his agenda. They gave the impression that they had scheduled the live appearance but it was a last-minute vote or something that kept him in D.C. )
Tonight 3-23-06. Never saw "Seinfeld", didn't get the "Mendelbaum!" joke. But a clear and coherent guest. Fell apart laughing during the Cheney rider about Fox News: "Because God forbid he learn what a bleepy job he's doing!" While the cheese thing was silly, I cracked up: every time he said "DA"--chung-chung!!

Fareed Zakaria was on this past Tuesday, I was a very happy camper. While I'd like to see a bit more personal interaction between Zakaria and Stewart, (I was hoping for a congratulations about Maggie) I recognize that these are business chats.
What was interesting was that Zakaria seemed to be a little looser this time, really laughing (not just polite chuckles) and almost cutting up. Also unusual in that he really came out forcefully--well, duh, it's personal on immigration--when usually he's pretty professional and detached. But then, I guess by his sixth appearance he's comfortable enough at "The Daily Show" to let his guard down. Besides, I saw his appearance on "This Week", when he could barely get a word in between an obnoxious Katrina Vanden Heuvel and pissy George Will, so maybe he was glad to speak his mind.
Otherwise, I can't remember much. The Monday author looked interesting, Sharon Stone was extremely irritating Thursday. The Denmark segments had a couple good moments of self-mockery, and the Israeli elections were good. But nothing immediately memorable.

Wow, it's been a while. Last night's tease to John Hodgman about his Apple ads was great. Personally those ads leave me thinking how cool Jon Hodgeman/PCs are as opposed to snobby Apple. (eye roll "I'm a PC....OK that's enough, Jon!")
During the correspondents' "That was great!" thing in the first segment I was sitting there going "huh?!?!" That was completely and utterly pointless time filler. But Piper is just adorable!!! (Even when Samantha Bee was calling her "stupid" I loved that she oculdn't quite do the snark like she normally does, it was more of that affectionate tone parents use when calling their kid a "little stinker".)
Bush and Merkel and that cheesy porn music shudder. I admire her restraint in not telling him off right then and there, an international "incident" might have helped. Probably better to just shrug him off with that expression of complete disdain and disgust, more dignified and all that.
I generally could care less about the entertainment guests, but Shyamalan was pretty cool. The author about the spelling bees last night was also neat.

Should be quite interesting if an appearance ever happens on TDS. That guy sounds quite the maroon. ;D He sounds just as smart as the fellow on The Colbert Report pushing for the 10 Commandments being displayed and not knowing what any one of them were.

Cult of personality.. (from New York Daily News) Cult of personality For some, Jon Stewart is true religion By SHERRY AMATENSTEIN Last Saturday in Union Square was so scorchingly hot that the usual proselytizers were missing. They went to the beach, instead, to hand out pamplets for Scientology, Jews for Jesus and the Rev. Sun Myung Moon. That left an open playing field for Dave Sasscer, 42, founder of the Jonsons, aka Sons of Jon, a "cult" that believes that "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart is, well, the Lord. A few months ago, "in a 15-minute burst of awe and adulation," the singer/songwriter penned the tune "Jon Stewart Is God."
After performing it to enthusiastic crowds at Symphony Space, the Knitting Factory and other clubs, Sasscer had another revelation: The song needed a rock video.
Teaming with the New York cable-access sketch comedy troupe ITTV (It’s Twisted Television), he assembled a crew, a $1,000 budget, and was combing the park for participants to join the other 10 white-clad, "Jonsons."
Bronx resident Kevin Carroll’s first reaction was to scoff, "I would question anyone preposterous enough to believe Jon Stewart is God." But the Department of Sanitation supervisor, 55, a self-proclaimed atheist, admires the talk show host’s politics and came around.
Megan Stein, a 22-year-old college graduate from North Carolina, also enlisted. "Jon Stewart is more intelligent and quick-witted than most politicians," said Stein. "Why not let him have a religion?"
Others were unrelentingly opposed to the notion of a second Jewish deity as the growing band of Jonsons did a conga line around the park singing.
Though actor (and park visitor) Chris Noth professed to like Stewart, he steadfastly refused to embrace the new religion. Sasscer has no plans to create a house of worship or distribute prayer books. Under prodding, he confessed: "Our theology is not fully developed."
Admitting that 'The Daily Show' host has no idea he’s spawned a cult, song (available on itunes) and a video to be broadcast on ITTV next month, the Jonsons founder added, "I hope our God will be flattered once he realizes its normal people who just dig Jon."

The Jonsons ... heh. There are so many reasons and ways to ridicule these people, but this moniker is really the best for my crass and immature sense of humor. What a bunch of dicks ;D

I'm normally iffy about the entertainment guests, but Samuel L. Jackson was just cool. Very laughing, not take yourself too seriosly, just have fun with it. (But there is no way in the world I would actually see "Snakes on a Plane"--pictures of a dead garter snake freak me out. If I were to sit in that movie I would have a nervous breakdown and have to be carried out, I'm dead serious.)
Last week, I must say that Asaaf Nandvi, with his Middle Eastern reaction ("We welcome the chance to test the latest theories of your political scientists", "Tiny drops in an oil field of opportunity") was terrific. I want more. And John Oliver (new British guy) is certainly doing well.

I think you mean Aasif Mandvi. He and John Oliver were quite good.
He's been on all three L&O shows (CI episode "Inert Dwarf"), plus he was a judge on TBJ.

I'm so glad the show is back. Last night (Tues Sept 12), with its response to Bush's speech on the 11th, made my week. The Metaphorical Mapquest made me giggle, Fake-folksy Jon had me clapping and cheering. (And surprisingly enough, the hat works on him. All I'm gonna say.) But splicing Bush with the Little Richard ads? Pure genius; I was howling and shrieking with delight. It'll be much easier on my TV now because instead of yelling and cussing and coming close to hurling objects at the screen whenever Shrub speaks--as I was doing on Monday night--I can just exclaim "Somebody help me!! Woooooooo!!!!". Lewis Black was alright, Gary Hart I could take or leave. But the country twang version of the theme song at the beginning of the closing credits was terrific.
