Posters from the past will have read my thoughts on this issue, but I thought it was an important enough issue to bring up here formally.
I request that if anyone is buying a copy of a film or even a DVD; that they do so from a site that accords proper sales records to the film. Full Metal Jacket, from 1988 is still being tallied - and the people, actors, writers, crew all the background, wardrobe, music whatever, can use this in their resumes - it can have a direct bearing on their obtaining jobs. It can have direct bearing on residual incomes.
If there is any legit site to buy these things from; please do so. This is a fundamental courtesy that can be extended to the people who have made film making their profession.
I saw Guy and Naked Tango on Ebay on DVD not too long ago - they both were never released on DVD as far as I know, so the person selling them 1- could be just trying to share some hard to find D'Onofrio works 2 - could be trying to make a little money from selling these things (and gee, if they just wanted to share, why list just one so that the bidding would go up and up - I saw Naked Tango a legit VHS go for $79.00)
So anyway - that is my little soap box for today. One small action can have a large detrimental effect on many many people and the blood, sweat, tears and time they put into a project.
I have purchased things used, but once I found them on a different site, I did purchase a good copy. I actually perfer to have 2 copies - never can be too careful with a D'Onofrio collection!

I do my best to buy things new. The only exceptions in my VDO collection are Guy, Household Saints and Pelham 1,2,3. If you know where any of those can be purchased new, I'll do it.

Oh, sure ... and don't forget The Inspector that is only sold from an asian country that doesn't pay the rolyalties.
No - if it is unobtainable in any other fashion .... then obtain away ..... Pelham is available but only in VCD form that doesn't play in american machines.

This is a great place for folks to ask about different movies, etc. So if ya don't know where to find something, someone on the board can help.

Pelham Bay Park (aka, Pelham 123) can be found in commercial PAL format (VHS) pretty regularly on European ebay(s), often for a very reasonable sum even with shipping charges. I know it won't play on USA VCRs, but if you look around you can have the PAL copy converted to NTSC for around $10. It is legal to do that as long as you don't resell the original PAL version and keep the NTSC for yourself.
I got my fairly decent copy (bought, shipped, and converted) for less than $25 altogether. Not too bad.
