Lousy excuse that the home computer is kaput--Trojan plus fried cable modem equals one very irate family. So a belated Happy Birthday, Patcat! Hope you got a fun day out of it!

Happy Labour day, Proletariats!!!
I, for one, am not looking forward to labouring tomorrow. First day back from a long weekend is always hectic.

I'm posting at 6:30am! I recently got a new computer - $150 CDN after rebates . I kid you not 80gigs, 330 celeron processor, CDwriter - the lot. How are computer companies making any money?! Now it takes me about a minute compared to 8 minutes to turn it on now which means I have even more time to waste!
I have to be at work in exactly 21 minutes.

Thanks, guys!! and Happy Birthday to Patcat and eYeSpEak! My summer is ending much better than it began. This has been a great birthday on many levels; and to top it off, the weather is simply beautiful! Hope all is going well for the rest of you, too. One great bit of news I’d like to share is that I'm currently in the process of applying for a job as a field representative (local dog trainer) for Paws with a Cause – a non-profit organization that trains Assistance Dogs for people with various sorts of disabilities. As a field representative, I would work with the person who was applying to get an Assistance Dog to assess whether a dog would be able to help meet their needs. Then, at their headquarters in Michigan, Paws would train the dog to meet those specific needs, and then send the dog to me. I would introduce the dog to the client, and train the two of them to work together. PAWS provides lifetime training and support to clients, so any time there’s a problem with the dog/owner relationship, or the dog needs to learn additional ways to help, or the person needs a refresher course on training techniques, etc., I would be there to do the additional training. I would also do community education, demonstrations at dog-centered events, and support any puppy raisers we might recruit in this area. I’ve been interested in training Assistance Dogs for a long time. I had my own dog, Gwen, trained to do a lot of assistance behaviors – partly because Border Collies need to have “work” to do, and partly to work out how such things could be taught. This would only be part time, though in time it might possibly lead to a full time position at their headquarters. Even if it didn’t, making part of my living working with Assistance Dogs and their owners would be an absolute dream job for me. If anyone wants to learn more about Paws for a Cause, their website is at: www.pawswithacause.orgAnd, if you are so inclined, any good thoughts, wishes or prayers for a good outcome for me (whatever that might be, though, of course, I hope it includes getting the job) would be greatly appreciated!
