Happy early B-Day Bdbrowski! And if you live in NYC Beth, how do you afford rent and still are able to eat?! I researched rents for various apartments in Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan, and nearly had a heart attack! *Mel shocks easily for rent prices...lol. I'm poor, what can I say...*

Yes, happy b-day, bdbrowski And are you not a fan of Tolkien, or of democracy? Just kidding! ;D I can respect different political views. There are others here who support the shub in their sigs. I dis him in mine. If you find it terribly offensive, I can remove it

you know, saving the shire - well I never really cared about the damn shire. I was into just plan destroying Sauron and the Orks and any and all tree and elf killers!
Frankly, I thought the shire was boring.

I like any place where there's, what, 8 meals a day?

Yes, but it also seems to be overrun with heavy smokers .... (And if you saw me, you'd know I've been tobacco free for over a year. It actually shows, I kid you not.)

I remember when you first mentioned about letting go of the cigarette habit, Trisha. Congratulations to you.

Yes, Congrats on kicking the habit Trisha! Wish I could do that with caffeine! I thought the Ents kicked a**, the Shire wa kinda the eat, drink and be merry section of Middle Earth. And who the heck eats 8 meals a day! No wonder the Hobbits probably had high cholesterol...*grin*

$1.25 a load? I take it that doesn't include the dryer. Or does it? $1.25?!! Try $1.75 a load and add another 6 quarters to dry. One of the reasons it sucks to live in TO. As a result I now have beaucoup affinity for various shades of pink. Seriously though, ok, not so seriously but the laundy equation was a major reason I opted to live on campus the entire time I was at college which, come to think of it is most of my life so far. That and the time-space inverse relationship. The less the distance to my first class; the more time I get to sleep. ;D

Yeah, it would have been 2 years had I not had a little back slide 3 months in. It took another 3 months before I was ready to try again, and I've been successfully coping with stress without the aid of nicotine since. I think it helped that once my body was clear of the addiction and I had other, more effective means of dealing with stress, I could view cigarettes as the noxious things they really are, and the thought of cigarette smoke polluting my body again when I came in contact with it again made me physically ill. Even now, I can't stand the smell of just the residue on smokers clothing. I can't stand to be near them, or ride in their cars. And I cherish that nauseous feeling I get because it keeps me from remembering the things I used to like about smoking when I come in contact with it. All I see is a person with a crutch -- a revolting, poisonous crutch.

Trish, Congrats on the nicotine. By the way, I am not offended by your logo/signature about Bush; I am just clueless and was asking a question. I was not being sarcastic. And there are no Bush supporters allowed in my family, trust me on that one. Any time I want to post on this board I have to close out ten windows of democratic blog sites that my boyfriend is writing for.
Mel, I have lived in NY my whole life (nearly 40 years), including seven years in Manhattan for college and grad school. I fully understand what it is like to be broke. Rent and food and tuition meant I had to work several jobs and take out student loans that took me ten years to pay off. To answer your question, I afford rent because I live in a two income family.
By the way, my name is Beth. I don't know why my login name is my email address. I guess I screwed up when I registered.
-Beth

*snicker* I like your Bush comments Beth, and I have to say that in someplaces I've been type-casted into Bush support, merely because I'm from TX.(which couldn't be farther from the truth) Alas, there are political morons from every state, who can take over the moronic mouthpeice now and agin. Sadly, in my case...ours got all the way to the White House. *snerk* And I totally understand the benifits of a two income household, even being down here and not in NYC. Still when I look at the rents and comute times into the city...it makes me very grateful for my little two bedroom and 15 minute commute to work.

Beth, glad to know you took no offense to my sig. I sometimes forget that not everyone has seen The Lord of the Rings movies, let alone read the books that inspired them. In TLOTR world, Sauron is the evil warlord that is taking over Middle Earth. In the real world, Sauron is the evil warlord that is taking over the Middle East. Just a subtle difference ;D BTW, you can change your display name by editing your profile

Trisha- I'm a big fan of Lord of the Rings, but I'm also a big fan of President Bush. So even though I don't agree with you politically, I admire the wit of your analogy. (I also think I'm outnumbered politically here in the squad room, so I'd better stick to a study of Goren, Eames, and Company. That's more fun anyway. Sometimes the real world is too depresssing, especially after a day of trying to teach Language Arts skills to eighth graders. Give me an escape to detective fiction anyday!)
