Well, the weekend was busy, but overall fun. Thursday and Saturday ngiht the choirs were singing witht he local symphony (the girl I was supposed to ride with Saturday night was amazingly flaky and late, thankfully I've got a car so we could just take off and not worry about her). Friday I watched "Mississippi BUrning" in one class and then chilled the rest of the day with the Marx brothers. Today my Mom and brother came by for lunch and to take my winter clothes back home. The big fun thing was the "olympics" the dorm held, just a big field day. Dodgeball, Laundry Suicide, four corners, water balloons, etc. I took 3rd place overall (mainly for showing up), but I did get 2nd place in Mattress Madness, yay! And the weather has been just gorgeous here, I'm ready for summer and don't wanna work.
This week will be the eye of the hurricane, relatively calm until all the papers and stuff come tumbling in (20th, 21, 25th, 29th). So I plan to take it steady and not pull my hair out any sooner than I have to. Later all, take care.

Cassie, that was too cute! And I love the quote at the end. Thanks for sharing Hey Catbird, what's "mattress madness"? I'm glad to hear you've been having nice weather. We had a few really beautiful days here last week, we nearly hit 80 according to my backyard thermometer! -- very out of the ordinary for us this time of year. I got to break out my new spring clothes and shoes a whole month earlier than I thought

Cassie-Thank you much for that great link.
We have had three days with this large, bright ball in the sky. Not use to this much light. Someone thought it was called the sun. I remember the sun.

Trisha, the only problem with sunny weather is productivity goes down the toilet! Right now I'm at the point where I just want to lay in the grass until it's time to go home for summer. Glad you're getting some too!
"Mattress Madness" is the sport of choice in our dorm. Not that it had a name before the Olympics on Sunday, it just tends to happen on special occassions (Zoo Hours during exams, beginning/end of semesters, etc.).
Get a standard dorm mattress. Place it upright against a wall. Run as fast as you can and smack into mattress. For the sake of the Olympics the guy in charge would call out a score on a scale of 5.0 based on "Speed, bounce, and style". Bonus points if you brought the mattress down. A liberal arts education hard at work... And yes, we had a video camera rolling.
Not that I did anything special, I just ran and leaped head-on for a WHAM! First time I fell on my back/side (fortunately I had room to roll so the impact wasn't that great). Second time a guy behind me put his arms out to keep me upright so it wasn't as spectacular, but I did get the mattress to fall. Other people tried forward rolls, red light-green light, a (failed) striptease, one guy actually dove through a hula hoop. Of course it is somewhat risky--one girl, bless her heart, hit her head on the wall as she bounced back and had to go get it checked last night. Not a concussion, thank God, but swelling and fluid. She automatically won that event, and wound up taking the blue ribbon for the whole Olympics.
Well, I have a take-home essay to write, it makes up a third of the Islam test. Compare/contrast Qutb's (Islamist) notion of Jihad with Shaltut's (Modernist) idea of the da'wa mission. Don't you wish you were here... Take care all.

Elena, nice to see you again. Cassie, finally got a chance to open up the link. Thank you for sharing. That was very nice. The cat tucked under the cover was cute. And I too liked the Anatole France quote at the end.

People really have been quiet. Sorry I haven't posted in a while but this is Hell Week. I'm in the middle of one book review, turned in another one this morning, have a major project to work on this weekend. So I'm still alive, if not fully conscious. (The old jingle "Ten, two and four: it's Dr. Pepper time!" is applicable in the AM hours as well, I have discovered.) Back to work, if I'm not out in a week send some cookie dough after me.
Later all, Catbird
PS: Cassie, thanks for the link. Those were some great pictures--I miss my kitties!#nosmileys

I don't know about other, but I've had a difficult time trying to log on about the last week or so. I'd get messages like the server was busy and page not available. Catbird, good luck with "hell week". I know that feeling well. I'm going through similar time constraints at work.

Hey Rom It's spring here, and we had some really warm days already, which made it feel like we skipped spring and moved right into summer. A cold front is sweeping in now, and we had a lot of rain yesterday -- a reminder that it's not summer yet. My tulips are blooming, as is my plum tree and a few other spring flowers. I hope they don't all wilt away, because I heard that we may get snow over the weekend!
