Happy Mother's Day (USA) to all celebrating!
Happy birthday Trisha!
(I'm terrible at remembering holidays and birthdays but if given reminders I will always send good wishes.)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TRISHA!!!
I hope you know how much we all appreciate you and your contributions to the board, and your general comments about everday life. I know how much I do, and this place would not be as good without your prescence.
So, you are what, 23 or 24 years old now?

Lol, thanks everyone Coth, you're kill'n me! You know, I was reading your message at the same time I was listening to a voicemail from my brother. He said, "Happy Birthday, and if your checking this message on Monday, you're 30 years and one day old, which means you are now closer to 40 than you are to 20. Ouch!" I say that's okay. I'm actually pretty excited about turning 30 because I think this is the year! This is the year I'll finally be allowed to sit at "the grown up table" at Thanksgiving dinner ;D

Coth, glad you're back!
Trisha, a happy belated birthday to you! I didn't get on yesterday so I'm a day behind. (But for future reference, where did people see that?) I hope the moppets were good to you yesterday.
Our house was relatively tame, a late dinner of Mom's pick (Steak, barbecued shrimp, and homemade chocolate ice cream), cards and a gift certificate. Speaking of Moms, has anybody heard from Darmok lately?

I have had the day from hell and though I'd share my story with everyone. A day from hell that I am just laughing at! I agreed to watch my sister's 3 kids today. 6, 3, and 2. (Obviously, I am nuts!) Anyway, I was trying to clean up the yard to get it ready to mow it. Well, the older two kept malking messes of my brush piles and running around and running into the street. I needed on the back of my head to watch those two! The youngest just wanted me to hold her and clung to my ankles like Saran-wrap! What should have taken 45 minutes took 3 hours. I then took the kids to McDonald's for lunch. They all fought over who got what and then fought each other for each others foods. *Screams!* The youngest refused to eat her food but, kept getting food off my plate. I tried switching plates with her but that didn't work either. I had Her Whininess (hehe) in my lap and the other two swatting at each other all the while we there. *Screams again!* I knew there was a reason I don't have kids yet. Back home, my sister finally came to get her hooligans, three hours late I may add, I went to mow the lawn but my husband had forgot to buy a new battery for the tractor! *Screams louder!* So I ended up mowing the lawn about 8 o'clock. I bet that just thrilled the hell out of my neighbors!! hehehehehe And all of this fun was happening while packing and getting ready to move back home! Hope everyone had a less eventful day than I did!

ha ha ha well, it is days like that that make one realize that 2 parents, 4 grandparents and an extended family is really optimal to rear any kids. ;D
Sounds like you are feeling in good spirits though, and now you have short grass to sun yourself on.

Brain fart as to Darmok, sorry. Where were the birthday notices?
Oh, NicoleMarie, that does sound like an icky day. I babysit when I can, but it tends to be families I know with only a couple well-behaved kids. (It helps if you've been there since they were babies, so it's a play date as opposed to "Who is this strange person taking me away from Mom and Dad?")Never had a day like yours, although I did get one five month old during his first ear-infection, THAT was a fun night...
I am done with exams and all, praise be. Waiting for final grades but I'm not terribly worried about anything. Moment of triumph, my archaeology professor asked me to e-mail her my paper file so she could have an example for future classes. Why is it the only talents I have are no fun at all? Anyways, gotta go back to school tomorrow afternoon so I can pack up my room and sing with the choir at Commencement.
Today I interviewed for an internship at the local art museum, and I think I've got it, all I gotta do is call tomorrow to confirm. So I have that happy medium of something to keep from getting bored, but also spare time to enjoy the summer. Even better, my scholarship provides for a stipend if you do an internship so I don't have to screw with a part-time job, yay! Sorry, but I'm finally de-tensing after a very long school year. I am going to go pop in an old movie--on a big TV screen that I can actually see!--and enjoy a warm, lazy afternoon. Later all, take care.

NicoleMarie, Happy Birthday! (a little late) I know what it's like to be driven nuts by children, but don't worry, they're not nearly as annoying when they're yours, I promise. I used to wonder, before I had kids, if people with ugly kids knew their kids were ugly. The answer is NO. You just fall in love with them the second they're born and no other child ever compares to them in body, mind, or spirit. And can I just say that you are and AWESOME wife! I never mow the lawn. Never. Not even when Mr. T goes out of town for work and won't be back for 2 weeks. He mows it before he goes, and as soon as he gets back. I hope Mr. NM knows how lucky he is to have you! Catbird, the birthdays aren't shown anywhere, Nikki just has a really good memory I think that when the new upgrades are done, we'll be able to see them on the calendar and in peoples profiles if they want to show them.

Yeah, thanks you guys. My mom, especially was about to jump through the phone lines when I told her. I think she just needed some good news, because the past few days have been Hell trying to deal with her sister.
The sister--I have a hard time thinking of her as my aunt--stayed with us last night before checking into a homeless shelter type place. That in itself is bad enough, but there's alcoholism and just generally butt-headed choices over a lifetime--always calling my mother to come bail her out and fix her problems. I hate to feel cold and callous, I am sorry for her, but mainly I just hate seeing my Mom get hurt after the sister's manipulation and sniveling. Please don't think I'm being ugly to those who have similar problems, I know that there are a lot of factors in play, but it's just the way that this situation has gone for as long as I can remember, I get so angry when I see what this does to Mom. Fortunately one of the pastors at church has been very helpful for Mom in terms of counseling, listening, and the occassional advice, and he is still there and supportive.

Trish, sorry but if I had known you were getting that far up in years, I would not have said anything. My goodness, 30(maybe we should have a special thread for you older people) . Nicolemarie, belated birthday wishes. I always enjoy reading your posts. Catbird, I normally enjoy reading your posts, but when I come home from working at the inconvience store where I am employed, I really do not need to hear about steak, barbequed shrimp and homemade chocolate ice cream, so give me a physical break, okay? ;D. Seriously, much congratulations and kudos for your internship. It gives me a very warm feeling to know that someone as deserving as yourself has accomplished something that means a lot to them. I know from your posts how hard you have worked for this and all of the nonsense(there is probably a more scatological term that could be used here), with roomates and ersatz teachers and professors you have persevered through and I admire that very much. You are one very special human being. Do not ever lose sight of that. As far as your mother's sister(I hope I got that correct), you should not feel cold nor uncaring about that situation. The fact that you even worry about that you might be that way shows that you are not. Unfortuneatley, there are people who feel that the world and anyone that has it better than they do, are owed something even if they have never put out the effort that those people have. I have never understood that attitude, and quite honestly hope I never do, other than in an intellectual way. By the way, any chance of you being able to send me a Picasso, or a Da Vinci, surely the museum doesn't keep a close eye on those things....
