Oops, Thanks for the correction, Nikki. You know I don’t pay as much attention to the other L&Os as I do to Criminal Intent. Hey, Coth, I don’t hear/read many people call on the Aesir (the old Norse gods) these days. I have some on-line friends among the Asatruar (non-racist variety), so I can’t help wondering if you follow that tradition, or use dieties from other traditions as euphemisms for Christian swearing, or just like the unusual sound of calling on Thor. (a personal question, I know, which you don’t have to answer... but you did ask for it, you know, by throwing something like that out there )

Observer, I did not quite get that, does this episode air tomorrow? Please try to be a bit more clear and ostenstatious with your posts At the risk of boring everyone on this board, I will reply to your inquiry about my fixation on Norse mythology. I have a basic Christian outlook on a lot of issues(no, not the intolerant and errant view of Focus on the Family and others of that ilk), but I have a major spiritual connection with the basically pagan and natural based disciplines. I find it a bit fascinating to remind some of my more conservative friends that at least four days of the week are named after the Norse gods; Tuesday(after Tyr the Norse god of war), Wednesday(named after Odin[Woden and Wootan in the Celtic tradition]), Thursday(actually Thor's Day, also Thunar and Thonar in English and Celtic traditions) and a day I hold sacred in my own practices; and Friday(which is actually Freya's Day, who was Odin's mate). The Normans in English history were actually descendants of the Vikings, and were the kings and queens of England. Okay, the lecture is over so please pass your papers to the front. I was glad to hear that you have contact with people who are non-racist on this subject, because just like the swastika(which is still a sacred Hindu symbol), there are those that misuse Norse mythology for white supremacist purposes. I would like to get in touch with these people, because the earth and Druidic disiplines contain truth that the more tunnel-minded people cannot discern. Odin's blood, keep LO:CI number 1!!!

Coth - one of my k-9's has the name of Dreighton ;D and I was going to name the next female Finra (ala Finrus). The Norse and Roman gods were much more interesting and fun than the christian doctrine I know about.

One of Douglas Adams' books, "The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul", involves the Norse Gods on present-day earth. (Mainly Thor, who's trying to restore the glory.) It's the second Dirk Gently novel, and while I don't have much background in Norse mythology I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I should read more mythology, especially since it was such an influence on C.S. Lewis (and, by the way, that was one of the common interests that drew Lewis and Tolkien together as friends). As mentioned elsewhere, "Till We Have Faces" is a fantastic, if gut-wrenching, retelling of Psyche and Cupid. I have a good memory for the main 12 Olympians but I'd like to get beyond the snotty Greeks. Although I will say that the Disney animated version of "Hercules" does have a few funny moments, even if it isn't truly accurate. (Ya gotta love a smart-aleck heroine.) But I don't care if it is the Odyssey and my relatives could have been the speech coaches, I do NOT care for "O Brother Where Art Thou?" That soundtrack is a very UNpleasant way to start the morning when your mother borrowed the car over the weekend and left her CD in the player at 6:30 Monday morning.
Oh lord. Started my internship yesterday, lugging the stuff out of storage cabinets for listing/photographing. I gotta get back in the weight room. My aunt's wedding went well this past weekend, she's got a great guy and they are currently in Venice for their honeymoon. My cousin and I sang "Sabbath Prayer" (Fiddler on the Roof) as a sort of benediction near the end--my aunt being a 49 year old Unitarian not leaving home or expecting babies anytime soon we did a bit of lyric reworking, just to include the man as well. I had scared myself sick about it the past couple months but it went well. And last night was Dad's birthday--we got him one of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection DVDs, much to our delight it included "What's Opera, Doc?"
And that's all I've been up to. I have made a note to watch CI tonight, thanks for the heads-up! Later all, take care.

That's a cute story about the basset hound, Obs. Can you imagine how happy the little guy was when he realised his owner WAS actually praising him. My lifestyle has changed lately to the point where I am seriously considering adopting a dog. It will be my first ever. Before this it has only been cats: Pepe and the current, Mr Pook. I'm torn between an intelligent, placid but large lab retriever breed or a smaller but friskier PBGV.

Sirenna--so you are thinking about a dog. If you can't decide between a poodle or a pug, a beagle or a boxer, a sheltie or a shihtzu, go to your local animal shelter. You could find one that is all of the above.
Everyone--have a safe MEMORIAL DAY!

Sirenna, what's a PBGV?

Yes, I'm planning to adopt but I have strong sense of the temperament and type of dog I want though.
Techguy: A PBGV is the small version basset hound. It also comes as a GBGV (grand version). They look like 'benjy'.
The few I've met have made me laugh non-stop. They are very comical and friendly.
Still thinking about a black lab too.

I want a happy-go-lucky dog. Used to have one Why can't dogs live as long as people? It's so hard to say goodbye to them. My sister and brother in law have a Siberian Husky, and she's an absolute doll. If it weren't for the unbelievable amount of hair they shed when they lose their winter coats, I would seriously consider taking one of her puppies when they breed her. I know the moppets would love it, but has anyone had the experience of cleaning up all that hair? Holy cow, for two months it was like a whole other dog had exploded in their house!

My mom has two siberian huskies, Tara and Jake. She got them from a Rescue. Their coats are so thick by the time winter is over. She gets both dogs shaved. It really helps to keep them cool during the summer months and by the time winter is back, all their hair has grown back. They look absolutely adorable Tara looks like Kimba the white lion

I have a special place in my heart for Siberians too because I once bonded with one of my sister's friends dogs. He was about two years old and new to their household. He took a shine to me for whatever reason dogs choose and for the week I spent there he would only sit with me and he'd whine if I left the house without him. They are very protective and just plain loving. soooo sweet. First time I experienced the true devotion of a dog. :-D
Siberians are time-consuming though. They need space and tons of exercise. I'll be working most days - right now as much 80 hours a week and there's no one at home when I'm gone, so a Siberian would not have the best life he could have with me.
