Not too terribly whipped up about the Superbowl, I didn't have a dog in that fight. Commercials were fair-to-middling, although Fabio's "Life comes at you fast" made me laugh out loud. And Spock! (I'll take that as an unintended shout-out to those of us in the Balcer's Borg.) Good thing I was alone in the room during halftime, cause having grown up on the Stones I was dancing and boogeying. Very sad when a 60-year old Mick Jagger can not only dance better, but pull off hip-huggers better than a 20-year-old coed.
I was kind of distracted though, I had gone home this weekend and was just tired. And now I have to study for a quiz. Later all.

my dogs won the fight - so I was more than pleased with the game
I really admire the coach - all he had been talking about for the last month was handing the trophy over to the owner & admist all the hoopla and other directing him otherwise; he made sure the first thing he did when he was handed the trophy was hand it over to the owner (who has stuck by the team forever)
AND I admire the "bus" who was offered a few years ago one of those " you are making too much now, but come over to our team and make an ever larger obscense portion" and he turned it down, saying his teammates got him to where he was, he was going to stick with his team. That doesn't happen too much anymore.

I'm off today and tomorrow. For the next few weeks my two days off a week will be during the week day instead of the weekend. It feels realy decadent.

Wish I had found this place earlier, but am glad I found it at all. Thanks for allowing me to ramble and I hope to be here for the next 2 years !! You guys and gals are great, definately one of the better boards out there. Its a nice place to come and read things that make sense as opposed to the motorcycle forum I'm on, lots of testosterone and drama. Granted I know most of the people cuz its local, but intelect is nice to have.

I had my little board-gush last month, but Happy Anniversary and many thanks to everybody. Love y'all, mean it!
Last night the dorm did a Valentine's dance, just hanging out more than anything. The dance auction was hysterical, people bidding at strange increments ($3.12! $3.27!), boyfriends and girlfriends giving up on dancing with each other because "I could buy her dinner for less". Because we ahd a lot of people win multiple partners, we just stood in a big circle and rocked back and forth to "Unchained Melody". That was late and I still had work to do, so I've been sleepwalking today.
Valentine's at college is such an interesting/amusing time. Of course there's lots of chocolate around--any excuse, right? Some bewail the fact that they don't have a significant other or they laugh at the couples that go all-out. In the all-female choruses, announcements have been made: "Ladies, if you're single a whole bunch of us are planning to go to a strip club on Valentine's day. And if your boyfriend just dumped you it's especially appropriate." I'm sure somebody could write a sociological thesis just from observation. What cracked me up was finding that the bathrooms are full of flyers with STD statistics and instructions on how to use a condom.

*I wasn't trying to be flippant about a serious problem, I know it's useful and necessary, but so much for Cupid!

Congratulations and best wishes for the second anniversary of this board. I myself will celebrate my second year as a member in June, and I have really enjoyed my time here so far. Thanks to everyone for making the experience so positive.
As for Valentine's Day, I will share this one and only observation. Lately I have been reading the comic "The Meaning of Lila." In the current storyline, the title character, a frustrated single, is determined to carry out a St. Valentine's Day massacre with her equally frustrated and clueless friends. They plan to go to the finest restaurant in town on the holiday, and create a disruptive scene in order to ruin the evening for all the happy couples in the place.
Needless to say, I don't recommend this sort of behavior. But it is rather comical to picture a gang of rowdy adulty (?!) singles engaged in this sort of thing.
Now excuse me, I must be off to shop for Mrs. Techguy's Valentine's Day gift. I have to come up with something unique and really special, or else there will be a Valentine's Day massacre of another variety at the Techguys' house!

Happy 2nd anniversary!
It's so nice to be two again!
(Like my little niece who desparately wants to be three at least. They never learn...)

It's a done deal, Sirenna.
I found some bling I think Mrs. Techguy will like--a gold pendant with some diamond accents. It's a floating heart inside a circle. I already have a dinner reservation for the evening of Valentine's Day (I hope Lila and her gang don't show up ). I have also ordered a bouquet of a dozen red roses which I will pick up to give to her before we go out that evening.
All this, despite having to endure the agony of "The Perfect Man" which I have already discussed on another thread.

Wow, Techguy, impressive! You are seriously rackin' up the quality points, especially with sitting through the movie.
Sirenna, watch with the generalizations, because there are some of us chicks who don't like jewelery! Far as I'm concerned it's just more stuff to get tangled in hair, knock down the disposal, or misplace--it's all I can do to handle a watch. I accept that I am a rare mutant in this sense.
For once I've been a good little student and finished all my work for the next two days, so I can indulge in hot tea and a good book after a shower. But I'm excited, cauyse I just got back from a choir rehearsal, an oratorio-type thing about King David. Some dicey spots, but it'll be really cool when we put it all together. Very pretty "Alleluia" sections, as well as some triumphant victory proclamations that are just hwah!!!

Catbird, you're right, not all women are into jewelry. Mrs. Techguy isn't one to go out and buy something for herself, but she does enjoy being surprised from time to time with a jewelry gift on special occasions. This makes the gift selecting and buying process a lot easier for me, and I'm happy to do it for her.

Janet! I think you've just been given the wrong jewelry! I'm sure it's not for everyone but it beats a vacuum cleaner.
Techguy: I'm sure she'll treasure the attention you'll give her. The pendant sounds like a lovely idea.
Techguy and all the other Valentines out there: HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!! and please keep the PDA down to a minimum...
