Well, harm doesn't necessarily lie in a simple statement.
Harm may lie in the assumption others choose to make of the simple statement, n'est pas bella?!
Nietzsche said that "Convictions are more dangerous enemies of truth than lies."

This Forum offers up some brilliant insight on many different topics and it has some very strong opinions about other public figures. But are we expected to watch every comment we make about Vincent D’Onofrio in order to protect him? Has he become our matinee idol? If we have to worry about what people are going to assume from our chit chat, then we might as well keep our mouths closed at all times.
The real person harmed here was the new chick on the block, not Vincent D’Onofrio. I truly believe he could care less about what we think about him. We need to lighten up and start to look out for each other. Not just our friends. And if we think someone has said something truly offensive. How about a gentle PM instead? I do not think this girl will be back.
As for Nietzsche, he sounds like a guy that sat on the fence all his life and looked the other way, while other people where being harmed. Its easier to philosophize then stand up for a cause.

No, no, no. Vincent D'Onofrio has his share of critics here, and we moderators have let it go as normal discourse between people of differing opinions. But, when people say mean things about him, or anyone else connected to the show or our forum just to be mean, then they're crossing a line and there is always someone there to hold up the stop sign, be it a member or moderator.
After reading all the comments here, I'm stunned to see this kind of overreaction to something so innocent. It's obvious to me that not one person here meant to be offensive or was purposefully offended.
So drop it.

Just an innosent question; if someone doesn't like Vincent, then why watch CI (sence the poplular opinion is that Vincent IS CI).

imo regardless of your like/dislike of VDO the majority of the ci storylines are very good. i.e I also enjoy svu but am not a particular fan of any of the actors in the show (please dont hate me svu fans).not that i dislike any of the actors just dont have an opinion one way or the other, but again svu storylines are good.BTW I am a HUGE fan of VDO.

Jones>> I can see that, I also like SVU (for the story lines also) but I'm not particularlly fond of Stabler as a character, I guess I can see where a non-Vincent CI fan is coming from.

No, I agree with you. I don't see how you could stand the show if you didn't like him.

I'll pipe in for the other; currently I am not fond of Vincent - but I like CI as much as I did when he held a higher regard in my mind.
The writing on this show is fabulous. The acting (directing) is also top notch; so while I do not have "disgust" "hate" whatever strong negative word you want to use for Vincent; I would not seek him out as a friend anymore. Janetheland really digs the camera work - there is a wealth of quality in most sections of this show.
But I watch all CI's even the Logan episodes - which are turning out quiet well.

Actually there are a few people on this site and other L&O sites that are drawn to the show for reasons other than Vincent. I myself love the character Goren, as weird or, perhaps because he is so weird but I spend pretty much all my time on the episode and general ci threads. I comment very little on his or the rest of the cast's movies. This is in spite of the fact that I've loved pretty much everyone of his movies and I really admired Kathryn Erbe's acting in Oz. I just don't find I'm drawn to commenting on his movies. I've seen some of them more than once and that's fine.
For me it's the episodes and specifically the Goren character that draw me again and again. They are so imaginative, I can re-watch them over and over again (most of them - not the really disturbing ones like Want ). How much of that is Vincent and how much is the rest of the talent, is so hard to tell. I think I'd still watch even if Vincent left (which I hope he doesn't!!!) and this was not something I thought I'd be saying after I heard they needed to add Logan and Barek.
Things change, I guess.

I used to love his crass way of speaking - he was telling what was on his mind without pc'ness
now he is more pc. In my eyes, he has also changed personally since he has been slamed with the success of the show.
I have a lot of other sources - and all put together it has caused me to loose my admiration. This is all for fitting into my [glow=red,2,300]Own Personal Subjective[/glow] values....which I laugh as I feel I have to add [glow=red,2,300]this explanation[/glow] due to just one poster on here who thinks because I disagree with her I am not considering her on equal footing with me.
Now I laugh again as I can see this can be taken in a negative when I am announcing out loud that I don't consider opposing opinions as subordinate to mine. When in fact - isn't that saying just what was ask of me? Equal footing? Equal doesn't mean carbon copy.
I have been wrong about many things, I have changed my opinions about many things, I have kept my position on very few things unchanged - in fact; and in further homage to this board and the members, it is some of you who speak up with a differing opinion that have changed my outlook on some issues.
so again, & sorry to bog the board down with a long explaination, but I am really laughing at this person who thinks I think so highly of my own opinion. (now, I certainly do think highly of myself but my opinion is a morphing changing thing that has been wrong more often than right)
and I am only answering a question another poster ask me - but am trying to further explain so this other person doesn't feel "attacked" since I was asked not to pm this person unless I could communicate on an equal footing & not only have I done that - but one could say, even a more than equal footing; considering many people in the past I didn't even bother to converse with.
