Catbird, I hear what your saying about Church, and singing those songs. But remember that Hymns cans be also sang as prayers too! Not just songs of praise. Listen to the words to: America The BeautifulOh beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majestiesAbove the fruited plain. America! America! God shed His grace on thee, And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea.
Oh beautiful for pilgrim feet Whose stern impassioned stress. A thoroughfare of freedom beat Across the wilderness. America! America! God mend thine ev'ry flaw, Confirm thy soul in self-control, Thy liberty in law.
Oh beautiful for heroes proved in liberating strife Who more than self their country loved, and mercy more than life America! America! May God thy gold refine Till all success be nobleness, And ev'ry gain divine
Oh beautiful for patriot dream That sees beyond the years. Thine alabaster cities gleam Undimmed by human tears. America! America! God shed his grace on thee, And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea.To me its a prayer, And we all know that this country, world, is need of plenty of them

Yeah, I know I'm in the minority, and I know people don't mean ill by it. Just personal opinions/comfort levels. I mean, I'll stand for the Anthem at ball games and I don't mind the occassional concert of Americana. Obviously, a memorial service such as those after tragedies like September 11th is an entirely different thing. But I don't think God plays favorites, and it can smack of arrogance when people adopt a sort of unspoken We are Christian Americans and therefore we are superior to all.
Actually the church I grew up in is pretty laid-back and moderate, I'm just especially touchy I guess. That's why I ditched, so I wouldn't have to sit through it and make myself--or anyone else around me--uncomfortable.

I had heard about the 9-11 wives comment on some talk show but I did think she had a point if her point was that these women are so enshrined by what happened to their husbands that whatever they do or say henceforth is unimpeachable merely by virtue of the tragedy they represent. But I also think Coulter is a bit millitant in her positions which don't add to her credibility. Could someone give me the jist of the Ann Coulter book? Acutally more than one person since I'd like to know many points of view. Is she against the troops but for the war (ok- that's a little faceitious, I know )

There are ways of wording an opinion, and then there are other ways. AC's language seems harsh and self promoting. I haven't read her book, so mine is not an informed opinion, just an impression

Anne Coulter is "Sensationalism Journalism". I still think on some of the issues she has some valid points. You just have to weed through it, And we have to do that with some of the other journalist that are out there too

Well since L&O:CI has done takeoffs on celebrities in storylines like Nancy Grace in "Wee Hours" maybe they will have a "Ann Coulter" type in a storyline next season.

Keith Olbermann (on his great show "Countdown") has taken to calling Anne Coulter "The Coultergeist." I think that's perfect!! caseyswife
