My cat has been very cranky-affectionate, especially since I got home. It's so nice to have an animal to cuddle after nine months in the dorm.
Happy Mother's Day! I know we have several on the board, hope all the moppets/daddies are good to y'all!

My dog knows when we spell 'walk' and there she goes to the door, opens it and barks from the outside like saying "hurry up" and she sleeps in our bed when we are not at home selecting the covers she likes and throwing the others on the floor. But that is not her best achievement, she taught the cats how to steal everything on the counter and bring it to her, then she shares food out. We have a 80 lbs mobster at home.
And it´s very embarrassing when someone asks why we have a lock in our fridge.
Cats are great too, they basically ignore me and I still care about the dry food they like most and I let them sleep on my favorite armchair...is that intelligence or what?

Alright, Det. 1st grade! That's what, 1,000 posts? Virtual high-five to Patcat.
With the talk about pets earlier I just have to brag about Cleo. Yesterday I got a godawful headache--maybe a migraine but I've never had those before. Just head-in-a-vise, nausea, thought-you'd-die-and-afraid-you-wouldn't type things. Soon as I staggered to my room and got in bed my cat jumped up and lay beside me, stayed there as long as I was feeling bad. (Normally she gets up after a few minutes.) I mean, she backed up against me and stayed put no matter how I fidgetted. What was really funny was when my Dad came in to check on me and started talking Cleo got fussy--sat up and "Ryyannw!" angrily at him, almost as if scolding him for bothering me! Sweet Cleo, of course now she's sulking cause I tried to shove her pills down her throat this morning, but it's nice to know they care!

Just a little brag for a little dog- My "Lucy" is our hero. When two guys tried to break in our basement window (while we were home) she barked. I yelled at her to stop. She kept barking. I kept yelling. But finally, she kept barking until we came to see what was wrong. When the guys saw me, they ran away. I wonder what those guys would have thought had they seen my vicious 9 lb. dog.

go little Lucy Go!
by the way - I am officially a sunflower cursed gardener. OK - I started these guys inside & they all sprouted - happy lovely things.
I planted them outside 3 near each other and near a stake .... while planting - I destroyed the tops of 1/2 of them -they were so tender & snapped at the lighest touch.
the few that got roots in the ground intact - have now have their tops eaten off.
Crapola - as these were giants and heritage & I was really hoping to have seeds to keep this going year after year. But I can't handle something that can't fend for itself. ..... like the volunteer pumpkin plants that are coming up from the spot I left my pumpkin to rot in .... now that's the kind of plant I can handle.
I did buy 2 service berry bushes ! Good eating for birds and humans alike.

A lot of couples seem to be busy in September, the more Tauruses there are, the better the world ;D
Metella, I've resorted to natural gardening, which means if it grows, it grows, if not, oh well. I keep a compost heap in the backyard (recycle, recycle, recycle) and I've had pumpkins, watermelon, tomatoes and acorn squash grow on their own (my mom called thes volunteers) but whenever I try to grow something on purpose I fail miserably, talk about brown thumbs, house plants don't stand a chance, I've killed even the ones said to be foolproof. madger

Matella, so sorry to hear about your sunflowers! Keep trying girl - my Mom (the Gardener) says that you can, in fact, GROW a green thumb! caseyswife

Well - the damnedest thing is ... I have a very green thumb with houseplants and with bulbs and with my blueberry bushes and all the rest. Just those darn sunflowers which I was hoping to eat myself!!! I've struck out 2 years in a row & for both those years I really babied them. ah well.

Matella>> Are there other varieties of sunflower that might work better? My Mom seems to think that maybe if you tried another type you might have better luck - considering your success with bulbs, house plants, etc...
