Exactly, Matella! And I promise you, the most sure-fire way to get sunflowers is to just plant the seeds directly outside.....I can *never* start them indoors. But tossed out willy nilly? Beautiful sturdy 6ft tall plants.
In theory I was going to have a lovely little butterfly/hummingbird plot, all sown from seed but the other day a bunch of my hens snuck through the orchard fence and scratched it to pieces.

yes, that might work. My mum once grew an avocado tree in the clammy wilds of England that way.
