I would have liked to see Goren and Eames there for Deakin's last day, too. The parting shot was right over their desks, so I guess that counts for something, since usually they try to avoid the Goren/Eames desks in the Logan/Barek episodes.
I think the bit about the desk was a reference to Logan's first episode when he got the wobbly desk behind the pillar. Deakins is moving him to a nicer desk, to be opposite his partner instead of where the Captain can keep an eye on him at all times.
I'm sad Deakins is leaving, but I'm hopeful of good things for Sheridan. He will be missed. I always love how he kind of laughes when Bobby would do something outrageous. His laissez- faire approach to his detectives showed how much trust he had in them. And they always came through for him.

I absolutely HATE that I liked The Good MUCH better than The Fire!!! Especially since would much rather watch aGoren/Eames ep than a Logan/Barek. Chris Noth was excellent in this ep, and I caught myself REALLY understanding how much Logan empathized with the son and what he was having to go through with HIS father.
I'm beginning to resent the fact that the Logan/Barek episodes are so much better than the Goren/Eames eps. But maybe that's because this is new ground with new characters (Logan/Barek). The writers are able to come up with more interesting material because they are "new and unused". Unless the show moves more toward the personal lives of Goren/Eames (which I don't think they want to do), the writers may have trouble coming up with eps for Goren/Eames that are as interesting.
Does anyone else have any thought on this?

As much as I liked the episodes written by the writer who left in February, I do think maybe a new writer or writers added to write some of the Goren/Eames scripts might do the trick next season.
I like both teams and it seems that most message board posters like both teams as well. That is at least a consensus I do get from looking at several L&O message boards. Very few posters like one team at the exclusion of the other. I am glad this is the case because I don't think any of the four actors wants to do a 22 episode season and that is fine as long as they stay with the series.
So I hope they continue to alternate the teams. This worked on Maverick for at least 2 seasons. Maybe the new captain can be be used in future scripts to create a new dynamic for the Goren/ Eames part of CI as well as the Logan/Barek side.
I would prefer to watch Goren and Eames play scrabble than I would want to see the show become another soap opera like CSI:Miami and other crime dramas have become this past season.

Well, Channel 10 finally saw fit to air this episode, and I have to admit it was as bittersweet as I thought it would be. I loved the way Deakins dove head-first into a case that technically was not in their jurisdiction ("What are they gonna do, fire me?") and really try to ruffle some feathers on his way out.
I agree - it would have been nice to see Goren and Eames there in the final scene for Deakins' farewell, but I suppose we can't have everything. I was amused by Deakins' comment to Logan and Barek, telling them to behave themselves, but Logan's sincere thankyou to Deakins was a very nice touch. Deakins' parting words to Logan about the desk were funny, and yet strangely appropriate. I loved the way he stood there stunned for a moment, before smiling and chuckling to himself.
And the parting shot of Deakins walking out of the Major Case bullpen? I seriously wanted to cry (and did, later on!).

With the alternating MCS teams setup, and if there are an even number of episodes--if Goren/Eames get the season premiere, the finale would have to be Logan/partner du jour.
