Oh, sorry, I wasn't clear. I was disappointed in the "Narnia" movie from last winter. It wasn't awful, but the whole wolf chase? (That had me shaking a shawl and mouthing epithets at my roommates computer when we watched; her friends were amused, but then, they didn't read the books except as prep for the movie. I'm a snob, I know.) Rupert Everett's cameo as the fox? The overlong battle sequence? Aslan lost most of his dialogue and his specialness, and they condensed the scenes at the professor's house to a day and a night. I also thought that most of the kids were too old for the part, but I must say all the children performed well. And you're right, Janethyland, the White Witch was scary, if not quite regal and imperious enough. I prefer the BBC version, I still need to see the others they did.
I didn't think of Silas Marner as the psychology of money--it just seemed incidental, although people remember Marner the Miser. To me it was all about loneliness and the need for human connections and emotions. For Silas, money was a cheap substitute/nervous tic to replace what he had lost in his faith and human relationships; he was never preoccupied with power or advancing at the expense of others. (Ben Kingsley, by the way, nailed the role, if you get a chance check it out. I think he did it in the '80s sometime?)
Hmm...remake "All About Eve"? It's a good story, I suppose they might try to focus on modern film actors as opposed to the thee-uh-tah. it's tricky, do you remake or simply copy, and can you keep the specialness? I suppose the right people could give it a good shot, but no names come to mind.

I think Narnia is great for kids that canĀ“t still understand the hidden christian message and they only read it as a story, with no other intentions. When you are older and you see that CS Lewis had more in mind than a simple story for kids, they you still like it but with a skeptical "hmmm". Maybe it is because I had christian messages all the time and I thought "not again...";D

Here is yet another one!!!
Raven-Symone will star in "Adventures In Babysitting remake.
"By Borys Kit
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Raven-Symone, star of "That's So Raven," is attached to star in the Walt Disney Pictures remake of "Adventures in Babysitting."
Symone also has signed an acting and producing deal with Disney that includes a guaranteed pay or play on one movie, with an option for a second. It is uncertain whether "Babysitting" will be part of that deal.
The 1987 "Babysitting," which starred Elisabeth Shue, followed a high school senior who gets stuck baby-sitting a bunch of kids. The dull night is interrupted when she gets a call for help from a friend stuck downtown, leading her and the kids into a night of misadventures. The movie marked the directorial debut of Chris Columbus.
Lynda Obst, who produced the 1987 original with Debra Hill, is on board to produce the remake. David Stem and David Weiss wrote the script for the new "Babysitting." No director has been named yet.
"That's So Raven" is one of the Disney Channel's highest-rated shows. Symone also stars in the upcoming Disney telefilm "Cheetah Girls 2." In addition, she produces content for broadband and mobile phones.

Thinking about the upcoming Oscar night on NBC, I am convinced there are two certainties in Hollywood--sequels and remakes. About the latter, I have come to the conclusion that in the vast majority of instances, the original version is vastly superior to the remake. Which begs the question: why bother? - I ask the same question myself, everytime I hear about another remake. Why remake something and have a chance at ruining what once was something special and unique? I tend to like 1 out of 10 remakes. And they just generally piss me off. Here are some of my thoughts... Japanese Horror Flicks - Why? A director sees a Japanese horror flick and likes it so much so s/he wants to bring it to America. Sometimes they feel they can do a better job, and sometimes they just want to share it with the masses. Truth is subtitles can hurt movies - Tons of people hate reading when their trying to watch a movie, they just want mushy brains for 2hrs. Actors that are unknown in the US don't generally sell tons of tickets. Why not remake a horror flick with a well-known celeb? Example Sarah Michelle Gellar in "The Grudge" Also this is a Japanese Movie with Japanese Stars. How many box office hits (America)can you think of with a Japanese (or Asian) actor? Popular Flicks - Huge Box office hits (King Kong, The Pink Panther, The Omen, The Manchurian Candidate), or TV shows (Bewitched). Why? The masses already love the film/show why not spend lots of dough make it big, bright and bold? Alot of times, the film/show was big decades ago so they come up with a remake to introduce new fans into the fold. Also hey...they've got this idea this movie already layed out for them, chuck out a few cents and hire some actors to redo the flick and to squeeze some dough from it.

Yes, All about Eve could work as remake. The dialoogue is certainly crisp enough and relevant even today. I just don't think there is a good enough enough actress currently to play Eve. I do see Meryl Streep as being terrific as Margo though.

I'm afraid to see the new Pink Panther, another one with Steve Martin taking the lead. How could it possibly be as funny??? For anyone who's seen the original, nothing could possibly compare. Anyone who hasn't, well, you're just TOO DAMN YOUNG ANYWAY!!!. - Don't bother it was horrible. Looked horrible from the trailer and I did see it, only because I felt like watching a comedy. Steve Martin isn't funny these days. I have seen a few of them, the original years ago on TCM and the one where Christopher Plummer plays Niven's character. The return I think. My Favorite Remake is "The Sound of Music". I don't know how direct a remake it is because I haven't seen the original two german films. Their hard to find and I don't even know if they have english subs. The Trapp FamilyThe Trapp Family in AmericaMovie Fone Lists Top 25 Movie Remakes

From Gothamist -- Location scouting is underway for the remake of The Taking of Pelham 123. Denzel Washington will play the Walter Matthau/Edward James Olmos role, and John Travolta the Robert Shaw/Vincent D'Onofrio role of Mr. Blue.

Interesting. Isn't Travolta a little old for the role?

A few remakes I've preferred to the originals: - The new Narnia movies, although I wish they hadn't made the changes to Prince Caspian with having the White Witch return, adding the castle raid, and making Peter and Caspian dislike each other. I thought that was dumb.
I agree the kids seemed too old. I didn't mind Lucy and Edmund as much, especially Lucy, but Peter bugged me a bit. I really enjoyed William Moseley in the role, it's just his age that I found frustrating. I also disliked how much the kids had aged between the movies - I think it would have been better if they'd filmed them all at once the way they did with the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Even if they only did the ones with the Pevensie kids together, then quickly filmed The Silver Chair.
- The Lord of the Rings - I haven't seen the animated Return of the King, but as cute as I find the hobbits on the animated Lord of the Rings the live action movie is way better. I like the BBC audio version as well, but I find their Gollum painful. - Freaky Friday. The original was okay, but the remake with Lindsay Lohan, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Mark Harmon was so much better.
One I didn't like that was remade was Death on the Nile. The original had it's bad points, but overall I preferred the casting on that version. Except I like David Suchet the best as Poirot.

Again? Why?
One Remake I always liked was "Anna and the King" - but that ows mostly to the more "modern" dialogue and the better technichal options in the newer film.
