Hi Barb, This is one of the earliest filmic treatments of the Hannibal Lecter series of books by Thomas Harris. It may in fact be the first one to be filmed. This one was based on his novel Red Dragon. It was re-made, using the same title of the book, about four or five years ago. I saw it years ago and thought it interesting.

This movie has been on TV several times. The scene with the blind woman trapped in the room with the rock music blaring is unnerving. The tall murderer is the same actor who played in the episode about the Irish family whose patriarch killed his sister. The college professor is the actor who played the villian in the movie. I didn't care for the way the movie was filmed. I believe the director was the same guy who did alot of TV crime shows. It had the same "feel" to it as the TV shows.

At least it was better than the remake Red Dragon. Peterson was pretty good in this. I thought Ed Norton was terribly mis-cast in Red Dragon. It's a good watch for a lazy day.

I forget who the director of this is--I want to write Michael Mann--but whoever it is just about ruins the film with his "style." There's a really good thriller in the middle of all the artsy fartsy stuff, and William Peterson and Dennis Franz are both quite good.

PATCAT---I believe you are right about the director being Michael Mann. All of his stuff has the same feel to it. A feel I don't much care for. Almost a "Mannix" moment. There is another director/producer/actor/writer who stamps his works with his recognizable "scent". Stephen Cannell. I know people want to stamp their work but sometimes it becomes so apparent or over done that it detracts from the piece.

Isn't Michael Mann responsible for this TRANSFORMERS movie?
I'm not a huge fan of Stephen Cannell's stuff, but he, at least, never claims to be an artist, which is the impression I've got of Michael Mann. (That is, assuming I don't have him confused with someone else.)

Sure enough, I just checked and Michael Mann was the director for Sonny and Lt Castillo

diablodeblanco, I agree with you there, as we age short term memory is gone, Just had to report my debit card missing, I found it yesterday in my car on the floor, where I took it from there I don't know, searched the house, I think I ended up putting it in the bag of trash I took out of the car. It kills me to walk into the kitchen and forget why I went there in the first place. But when discussions come up about stuff 20 years ago I remember it like it was yesterday. What was this thread about? Oh yeah, didn't remember the name, but after reading what others said, I think I watched it, lol. Ahhh Mannix, Rockford Files, Hawaii 5-0, Adam 12, loved them all.
Reminds me of a bumpersticker I wish I would have bought, at the time I didn't get it now I do. " Of all the things I miss, I miss my mind the most."

HEY RAGINCAJuN-- Here's a blast from the past......Jack Lord of Hawaii 5-0 fame starred in a series called Stoney Burke. I remember thinking at the time how great if would have been to be able to travel around and be a cowboy!! Gimme a break....I was very young.

Diablodeblanco, Pretty Neat, I thought you to be much younger. I don't remember Stoney Burke, but I do remember Hawaii 5-0. My mom loved McGarrett the way I do Goren. Do you remember on Hawaii 5-0 when they showed the "computer room" working furiously to come up with who the owner of a car/license plate belong to? Man, we really have come along way since then!

Sure do remember that hi tech state of the art crime stopping area!!! Back when they showed the computer room and all the activity it seemed quite impressive (at the time). Fast forward to today with all the "stuff" we have available and that thing gives me a chuckle.
