My initial impressions--no need to repeat what Todd Thatcher already said in his TVGuide review. However, I'll be even more emphatic and brutal than he was--with the exception of the exchanges between Goren and Ross about Type A behavior and anger, this episode was VERY boring. And unlike Todd Thatcher, my hope--my DESIRE--for CI's renewal has definitely waned. A hint of Goren sniffing, his "astronaut diaper" remark and Eames' "Houston, we have a problem" are but stale crumbs of what once was a dynamic Goren/Eames partnership. What the H-E-double hockey sticks happened to them?
What's especially irksome is Warren Leight confessed to having hit a wall after 18 episodes this season, and he brags that this ripped-from-the-headlines entry was "a gift" and a result of "divine intervention"? If he and the writers have to resort to this sort of nonsense to pad the episodes to 22, then heaven help us if they get a full season order of 22 next season. What's going to be WL's excuse--or salvation--next year? Sorry Mr. Showrunner, but trite and pedestrian is NOT the reason I watch CI. More of the same just isn't going to cut it if by some miracle NBC renews this show. If CI is renewed, it says more about the sorry state of program development at NBC than it does about the quality of CI. And that sucks big time.

I don't think I ever have walked out of a new CI ep before. I just didn't care it was so boring, no drama, the characters and script were poorly written, just, no. I think this replaces The View From Up Here.

Jeesh, Techguy, that was brutal, but I pretty much agree. I don't even remember what happened in this one...
I have a terrible migraine so I don't feel like posting all that much, but I really need to know this; what the hell was that one conversation about? Vending or venting...? I don't even know. I was so out of it and the episode didn't do much to bring me back in.
But I don't think it'll take a miracle. I mean, the competition is the Mothership. The logical choice should be CI. It should be, but Dick Wolf can't let go when its time.

If CI continues like this episode? The Mothership deserves the 08 season over CI

H-m-m. I like it. Not my favorite, by any means, but I thought a nice by the book procedural that wasn't as sensationalized as it could have been. And I thought the moments among Goren and Eames and Ross were very enjoyable.
I could have used a bit more of the astronaut's wife--her motivation was blurry at best.

The first CI episode I get to see since "Albatross", I'd missed several before then, and I was underwhelmed. I missed the crucial last third (I got a call from a friend to work out something important) so I left during the Luke/wife interrogation and came back at "If there are wives or mothers on the jury I'll be alright." (paraphrased) My roommate told me something about steroids but even what I saw I knew that the wife was behind it all, and the dialogue seemed trite.
Since when do they prop the heads up at the morgue?
Stupid music video opening. And that damn stalker cam! I thought they backed off of those?
I did like Ross's bit about Type A and lumping himself and Goren in together. Most amused with "Do you think I'm angry?" sounding genuinely hurt and puzzled. Eames, from what I could see, seemed to smile and roll her eyes with a bit of a chuckle. Yes, bucko, you are, so don't get offended when Ross calls it like it is. I'm not saying Ross wasn't exaggerating, or that his teasing can come across as slightly mean rather than friendly, but it's not that far off. I like that Ross isn't stupid, and can recognize Goren in ways the detective doesn't like to admit.
Sigh. I'm worried about next season--I don't want it to end, but I don't want it to be bad--and I feel guilty because I've seen so little this year. What's a fan to do? Can we bring back Rene? That's the only way to reverse-jump I can think of.

Holly, yes I am being brutal. If this crap, this drek is the best WL can come up with for CI during MAY SWEEPS, then it doesn't deserve to be renewed. There, I said it, it's out in the open. Dick Wolf and NBC should cut their losses and end it. But CI just might survive for the reason I already gave--NBC has nothing better to replace it. Better the crap you know than the crap you don't? What a sorry state of affairs this is.

Ahh, but all that matters is whats making NBC more money, right? They are not doing so well right now. I cant see every episode being this bad next season. I mean, this has got to be the worst. Can't get any worse unless they bring in Nicole. No ones that stupid... right?

It was nice to see Goren and Eames in sync with each other again. The scene were the Commander's wife wants to come with them to the squad room and Goren and Eames barely but with intensity look at each other reminded me of the good old days. I was also under whelmed by this episode and thought Leight's comment about having run out of things to write the most STUPID comment a show runner who wants his show to be renewed could make. If the show is renewed which I hope it is as I'd like the show to end with a much better season, there has to be a better show runner and writers. BRING BALCER BACK!!!!

Houston, We have a problem."
Jebus, ya think?
OK, NBC, you win. I no longer give a dam* if you renew it or not. I won't bother watching in any case.
Every series is allowed to have a dud now and then, but CI has gone from great, to fair to just plain awful. I have never seeen such a clearly negative trend in any series I have followed from beginning to end. What a waste of talent, resources, and most importantly, my time.
I agree that this replaces "View" as worst ep ever.
And I agree that Mothership deserves the nod for next year. 15 out of 16 years of that programme have been quality TV, even if the excellence did wax and wane. At it's worst is has never been this bad.
Houston, I'm over and out.

lovesong - that was hilarious! A+ for your clever post. Now if CI could just muster a C ?
This was flat out dull. It was like a student wrote it; no insights, no deep emotions, just really empty.
We need a SENGUPTA episode - we are in NEED of some intelligent black comedy.

Maybe my sense of judgment is out of whack because it's finals week and I'm feeling a little punchy, but I'm in the very (small) minority here when I say that I actually liked the episode. I agree that the case wasn't the strongest and upon reflection I felt that some of the things felt "forced", but I dunno, I thought there were enough small side moments to carry it along. Compared to other episodes of season 6, I thought it was better than the ones that were just "straight up crime" (i.e. light on the drama/angst), however it doesn't hold a candle to episodes like ITWSH (or Magnificat, or...).
I miss Eames' snarky comments - I feel that they have been lacking this season or have been a bit, er, predictable (like in this episode).
I agree - a SenGupta episode would be fantastic at the point and really help CI (or just something original!). I too am unsure if I'd really like to see it return for a seventh season if this is the quality we are to expect. gorensdoppelganger, Leight's comment really rubbed me the wrong way as well - running out of things to write? There are probably writers who would love to take a shot at CI and who could do a fantastic job if given the chance!

I wasn't able to watch the complete episode last night, so I just viewed it this morning.
I knew, as did my husband & son, that the wife was the killer as soon as she entered the scene. Her snappy comments about the bulge under the jacket & the tired eyes of a Detective - she came across too smart & conniving to be just a housewife. I was a little thrown that she didn't actually DO the murder, but drove Sandi to commit the act.
And so lame, that scene with Sandi about the lotion - talk about hitting us over the head. Hasn't everyone heard of Barry Bonds? I mean, She tests positive for steroids - then she's scratching her arm like a maniac - , then she's screaming "I must have MY SPECIAL LOTION." Great detective work, Goren & Eames. What happened to psychologically manipulating the suspect & pulling out information? Just another example of the perps handing key evidence & facts to Goren & Eames on a silver platter. Jeez
In my quest to find something good in this episode, I did enjoy the closer, more relaxed relationship between Goren & Eames. They seemed to be getting along well, back to their old partnership. More like before TWAH. I also enjoyed the "So am I, So are you" Bobby snark to Ross at his insistence that Sandi was guilty because she's "An intensely competitive Type A personality under enormous pressure." Eames expression - priceless.
On a lighter note, VDO looked good, but tired. Although, he had on the ugliest tie about midway through the episode, some brown striped monstrosity that didn't go with his grey suit at all. Looked like a Logan tie. Wardrobe malfunction?

Umm....*sneaks in meekly, feeling foolish* I actually enjoyed the episode quite a bit. I thought that Eames, even Goren, had several great little witty comments. I also loved their interaction and their facial expressions back and forth to one another. Ross was excellent in his remarks as well. I was entertained. I actually might have to watch that one over again. I want to see Alex's face when Bobby asks if he's angry. lol Kathryn looked so beautiful throughout the whole thing as well, more so than normally. Idk, maybe I'm just weird in my likings. I thought last night was fun.

I won't defend it as great episode, but I gave it a B on the poll, and I think it's far superior to VIEW. All of the actors gave good performances. But I agree that the plot was very much by the book. Perhaps my view of the show was colored by the fact that Goren and Eames seemed very much in sync with each other, as others have commented, and it was a great relief to see that.
After thinking about it, Bobby's failure to recognize his anger surprises me a bit. In SUITE SORROW he comments that he knew Julie's anger. But perhaps the pressures in his life have made him less self aware.
