Thanks for the link, Patcat.
Did you or anyone else notice the statement where it says there will be a $10 refund for purchase of a DVD set--but you have to buy another L&O DVD set to get it?
We got $10 back last year for a single DVD set purchase. This latest condition attached to the purchase of a DVD set looks like an attempt to "encourage" (or is it "force") fans to buy multiple DVD sets to get a price break on the DVDs.

It's all about money. What a crock. D.

If the Season 2 DVD set comes out in time to use the $10 refund coupon before it expires, I won't mind. What bothers me is the not-so-subtle attempt to get fans of one of the L&O series to not only buy the set they are interested in, but also a set from another series in the franchise just to get the $10 back.

Yeah, I like to watch all three, but ....
CI is the only one I want to own, pick apart, & rewatch.
Y'all will let me know if the coupon will stretch to Season 2?

Gladly, Metella.
My Season 3 DVD's are being shipped! Geez, I feel like it's Christmas. And I've seen them all about a billion time - recently to boot. Oh well. It's mine! And extras!
The new season can't start soon enough. Clearly. ;D

I got it! I got it! Nice little package in the mail. As expected, I had almost zero desire to see any of the shows from this season - I can practically recite them all from memory so I skipped straight to the bonus section.
Enh. I enjoyed the interview w/Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance - it made me realize how overlooked they really are and yet still a vital part of the show so the background on their characters was pretty cool.
I've been surrounded by cops my entire life so the private investigator part was fun but didn't really impart too much information to me - other than the limitations they have for story vs. realism - which is fairly obvious if I'd ever given it five seconds of thought. But then again, I'm used to people standing around going "they're answering a 415? What? They get demoted over the radio or something?' forever. Don't ever ask a cop what he thinks of CSI. Ask a lab tech.
The backstage look was interesting since I haven't been on a soundstage in ages, but the Who Is Robert Goren? section - the one I've been waiting for was basically a rehash/re-edit of Season one's bonus DVD stuff with a little new stuff thrown in.

Mine was waiting for me in the mailbox when I got home from a mini-vacation last night. I stopped unpacking, and popped the bonuses into the DVD immediately (in spite of the fact it was 12 am and I had to get to work at 8!).
I would've liked more in the Goren section as well. The tour was terrific, although we learned nothing about the Santa mug!

I've been watching some of the season 3 episodes, and I have to admit they're not as bad as I thought. They are very solid episodes. Of course, I've picked my favorites first (Murderer Among Us, FPS, Happy Family). I just watched Shrink-Wrapped again, and I think it's a great episode. I saw Mislabeled again a month or so ago, and I didn't thought it was decent (unlike the first viewing).
I think my main problem with season 3 is that it was disjointed. The 2nd season flowed so well; I think someone said that it was like a story unto itself. Well, season 3 wasn't like that, and it was a disappointement in comparison. But, the episodes taken one by one are good. There was a little bit of everything; Goren even got led on wild goose chases at least twice (FPS and Shrink-Wrapped). The major improvement over the 2nd season was Eames' involvement. She is figures things out almost as fast as Goren now, although he is still better at noticing the little things.
The second season was exceptional, but the 3rd season was good. Or maybe I'm just delirious because I need new episodes!

I was not crazy about Season 3 at first, but as I've watched the eps again (I have them on tape and now have the DVD) I like them better.
Sometimes the openings - things that happen even before the murder - have tidbits that don't make sense until the episode progresses. I think that I miss these tidbits sometimes, and it is when I rewatch the ep that I get the "Ha-ha" and certain things fall into place.
I'm so looking forward to next Sunday and the new season. The only downside is that we are moving closer to season 5 and the last year of LOCI. I do hope that VDO can be persuaded to stay longer. I know, though, that he has other interests, movies, etc, and a series makes it tough to have enough time for that.

Well, that was a pretty nice review, but I still don't want to buy the set. Maybe the season does come off better without so many breaks between episodes, but at this point, I've seen all the episodes 3 and 4 times, and I really don't care to see them again anytime soon. It's also very disappointing to know that the whole "Who is Robert Goren" thing is a basic rehash of previously recorded material. What a cheap ploy. I really dislike everything the marketing dept has done for this show, and the more they do, the more turned off I am. They need to be stopped, and maybe slapped around a little.

::)If you're a big fan of the show, there's enough to warrant buying the DVDs. For one thing, I like having the clear, clean sight and sound of the DVD. The "Who Is Robert Goren?" could have been better and it does use old material, but there are also some new interviews with D'Onofrio and Balcer. The profiles of Sheridan and Vance are nice, and the tour of the set is pretty cool.
And I find that the lack of commercials (plus the fact I watch these on a personal DVD player with headphones on) makes for a more intense experience.
I also think Season 3 is better than some people give it credit. I watched THE GIFT on the DVD the other night. Granted, I find the plot a bit of a stretch (it seems to me that Julian could have convinced the mother without resorting to murdering her son), but everything else is excellent. Bobby Canavale does a fine job of playing against his usual casting, and there's wonderful interplay between Goren and Eames and Goren and Carver. And I like the twists with Julian's character--no question, he's a bad man, but his loyalty to his lover is striking.

What?!! Telling me I'm wrong is one thing, I don't mind being wrong (much) but questioning my loyalty as a fan!! Now that's low! And just for the record: still not buying it ;D
