Four episodes of LOCI have been nominated for the Edgar for Best Television Episode Teleplay. The episodes are: WANT, teleplay by Elizabeth Benjamin, Story by Rene Balcer and Elizabeth Benjamin CONSCIENCE, teleplay by Gerry Conway, Story by Rene Balcer and Gerry Conway CONSUMED, teleplay by Warren Leight, story by Rene Balcer and Warren Leight PAS DE DEUX, teleplay by Warren Leight, story by Rene Balcer and Warren Leight The Edgars, named for Edgar Allan Poe, are awarded annually by the Mystery Writers of America in several different categories of mystery, detective, and crime writing. Their website is at www.mwa.org. Further proof of my belief that LOCI, and all of the L&O universe, is much more respected within the mystery/crime/detective world than they are in the television world. Patcat

Thanks Patcat. This is very cool and indeed further proof of LOCI's dominance. The link didn't work. I did a search. Here's the correct one if anyone's interested in checking out who else was nominated. www.mysterywriters.org/pages/awards/nominees05.htm I hope it works.

Four LOCI episodes vs Mr. Monk. Interesting odds?! Thanks for the information/links, Patcat and missymagoshi.

Whoa, I didn't know they could nominate so many from one show. I wouldn't mind MOnk winning, as "The Girl Who Cried Wolf" was a good show, but of the CIs listed I'd go for "Want" over the others. That's just me though.

Want for me also. It was a really dark epi, and brilliantly played. It remains my fav 4th season choice so far. The exchange between Vincent and Harris in the final scene wasn't just great, but gripping. If any epi has a chance to finally get noticed, that one is a prime candidate for this year.

Thanks to Patcat for posting this news, and also to Missymagoshi for providing an accessible link.
I would like to know more about how nominees and submissions are made in the different categories. I am also curious about who gets to vote for the winners, what size group does the MWA represent. Does anyone have any information about about any of this?
I wonder if, with four of the five nominations in the TV Drama category, the CI vote will be split four ways and the Monk episode will win by default?

The MWA site has information about The Edgars--who votes, how to submit, etc.

Thanks again, Patcat.
I was so focused on reading the nominees in all the categories, I inadvertently bypassed the other links within the main MWA link. I got the info I wanted.

I have a couple of friends who will be attending the Edgars tonight, and I actually know two of the people nominated. I've asked my friends to keep an eye out for Rene Balcer (I suspect he'll be there, but not any of the cast). And, if by some miracle they actually speak to him, to ask about the Santa mug (g).

Oh no! I didn't see this and stuck a thread on the Episodes menu. Bad me. I looked and I should have KNOWN that I woudn't be the first to see it, especially so late!
But isn't it cool? Monk got one. No one else got on the board at all. Ha.
Oh good, Jethro locked and moved it already. I'm so sorry Jethro! I don't know why I didn't look here. Too long gone from the boards. Again, I really apologize!

jaquetta: you have been too gone for too long, so keep posting.
this is cool, I am a big fan of the writers, as are many of the members here ..... I would rather write and have THEIR autographs than the stars
Hope they win.

Yeah, the writing on this show is simply outstanding. I doubt that anyone else in television has been nominated – or won – as many times as Balcer has. As far as psychological detective fiction goes, I think he’s the best contemporary writer in the genre – in television or any other medium. And he’s got some pretty good co-writers, as well.
