Tjara; I don't think anyone minds the resurrection of older threads, particularly when it's done as eloquently as you do (g).
I suspect Bobby's lack of a tie and the loss of Jay's glasses are both meant to throw Jay, to work against his need for control. They also keep the handcuffs on Jay, something that doesn't happen with every suspect in the interrogation room.

I never tire of discussing older episodes, especially this one. It is a classic, and one of my favorites. I believe we are to presume that Jay was roughed up a bit during his arrest & booking. Not hurt, but demeaned & humiliated to bring him down a peg, to help Goren & Eames assert control over him. Just as Patcat mentioned. Taking his glasses away was part of this assertion. I'm sure Goren specified that he was to not be given back his glasses after he was processed. I don't know how Bobby being tie less would help with this assertion. I would think that Bobby being dressed professionally while Jay is forced to be disheveled would help with the control issue. Maybe someone knows?

Aw, Patcat & DonnJo, thank you for the flowers.
I actually found the other/older thread for this episode and someone there suggested that Jay was classified as a possible danger to himself and therefore stripped of anything that he could use to hurt himself - hence the missing glasses, belt, tie... That does make sense and could've been a deliberate tool by Goren & Eams to make him feel powerless.
I'm still not sure about Bobby's missing tie, though. I'm sure that was deliberate, and I can't understand why. I don't think that would've been something that would've been missed or dismissed when filming (like the sunglasses were). Also notice that Eames attire seemed a little "unprofessional" as well. Or let's put it that way - both seemed to be "dressed down" a little. Just plain odd...
Maybe some scene that should've been before the aria ended on the cutting room floor? That would probably have explained Lippman's attire more closely, as well as his lawyer's comment about the rough treatment.
