I've read the first two. Now, remember you're dealing here with someone who is a bit of a purist when it comes to Holmes. I thought the books well-written and the character of Mary Russell fascinating. But I feel that Ms. King is using the character of Holmes to bring attention to her own series. Her character has only the name of Sherlock Holmes in common with the original. If she wanted to create a series, she should have had the courage to create her own character and not steal another.
If you think us BG fanatics are territorial, you should talk to some Holmesians. Many of the avid readers want no changes whatsoever to the Doyle formulae. Holmes is just too rich a character to pass up, and I really enjoy reading another person's take on him. If you go back and read Doyle's origional stories, it seems highly unlikely that Holmes could ever marry. I have enjoyed the stories I've read about Watson and Moriarty, any recommendations? I'm especially interested in stories based on Professour Moriarty.
