Humor me. Eames is my favorite franchise character, let alone L&O female, but I do own that "Olivia Benson is my Homegirl" t shirt. Maybe it's not a fair comparison: even now that we've had "Amends," we've never gotten to see Eames emote on a telephone to some fictional little girl for 40 minutes. But either way I think the comparison is an interesting one ...

I voted Unfair Comparison, because it's true that Benson gets so much more to work with. But overall I would choose Eames. And I've sworn off SVU since the second episode of this season. "Avatar" was so ridiculously exploitive I felt dirty while watching. I really did.

Personally I find Mariska a bit melodramatic in her delivery (eg, "My god... her child has... been abducted?!"), but then I'm way too biased anyway ;D

Eames. All the way. ;D I've only seen a handful of SVU, and Benson just seems... off to me. Too much emo in one show.

Until last year, Eames has always been sort of in the background of the stories while Benson has always been in the lead for most of the run of her series. Her story line has been equal with Stabler's. As much as I love Eames, you can't compare hers to Goren's that way. I wish it wasn't so, because I like Eames better than Benson.

I prefer Eames, especially this season. Actually, I enjoy her partnership with Goren. In the Law & Order world, each character's appeal is directly related to who they are given to play off of. Eames playing off Logan, Wheeler or another Detective wouldn't be as interesting to me.
Benson bores me with her over the top emoting. As other's have pointed out, Benson still acts outraged over every incident. There's no seasoning of her emotions that I see. Maybe Hartiguay should talk with VDO about toning down her character.

I do actually like Mariska as a personality: she has a lot of energy. And I like the character of Olivia, if not the woolier aspects of SVU. But Eames has my heart. If you think about how little Eames used to have to do compared to Benson, what KE has been able to do with the character over a comparable span of time is doubly compelling.
I also identify way more with Eames, as KE has described her, someone who is making her way in the world alone. Benson is a little more of a player.

For this one I voted: "Other" because truth be told I highly admire both of the characters and I'm not sure if I could choose. Olivia used to be my favorite character before I started watching CI. So I really don't know now. I voted Unfair Comparison, because it's true that Benson gets so much more to work with. But overall I would choose Eames. And I've sworn off SVU since the second episode of this season. "Avatar" was so ridiculously exploitive I felt dirty while watching. I really did. - Avatar was "Head" horrid. But there really hasn't been a horrid episode of that caliber since that one.

I don't think that is a very fair comparison.Eames is in the background a lot of the time, whilst there are entire eps that Liv is the up-front character.
