bought this movie on amazon.com (the marketplace) just cuz i'd heard a bunch about it (mostly on these boards)...and couldn't find that OR thumbsucker at any rental stores here (ok, i only checked a few)... i loved it! as with some other posts i've read on here...that kiss was the most romantic thing i'd ever seen! it was kinda awkward, ...a little fumbling...but oh so romantic it was cool cuz, well, i took robert e. howard as a man who was just, well, awkward around others. like, he's quite "shunned by the prudish community"...and so he's just kinda...socially in-ept, ya know? well, when i was watching it the first time..it was actually kinda awkward to watch ...you know how you feel if you're talking to a social catastrophe? and you just feel like you want to turn around and walk away? that's kinda how i felt at first...but not cuz it was a bad movie..it was just his character seeming, well, exactly how he was supposed to seem.

Raeangel, sounds like you where given the ability to step inside the movie, and breathe the same fresh air that Robert and Novelyn enjoyed, along with some of their issues. I felt that that kiss was the first time Robert ever kissed a woman. It was pure, innocent and vulernable. So sad, it all had to end.
Thanks for sharing, you really made me feel like you where there with them. Not too many movies can do that, It's a shame that it was a sleeper at the box office. Cause it will someday be considered a classic. Like Vincent VanGogh, like most artist, like most situations in life, we don't realize what we have, until the person behind it all is gone

my mom bought me this movie cause she said "I know you like VDO, and I'm pretty sure you'll LOVE this movie, considering you watch THE NOTEBOOK about twice a week," (hee hee, I do!). And GOSH this movie is so sweet!! I tend to get a little, ehem, over emotional when it comes to movies, and I tend to put myself in the movie with them, and I totally cried when Bob killed himself. It was horrible. But my best friend and I watched it together, and she said to me, "Now I know why you like that Vincent guy. He's a really good actor,". GREAT movie....ranks up with THE NOTEBOOK in my opinion.

the book IS better than the movie, i bought it after I watched the movie. the book focuses more on AFTER allie leaves, and the movie more on before she leaves. they're still both good in most aspects though.

but there's a reason i deleted it cassie....lol i was suggesting to someone to maybe edit their post so as not to give away major spoilers of the movie..in case someone came reading who hadn't seen it yet (like i did...just to see what people thought of the movie and whether it's worth buying) then i went back and looked through all the posts and realized there were lots of spoilers. so i tried to delete my suggestion. guess i tuned out all those spoilers before i saw the movie! i don't recall knowing the ending before watching it. don' t know how THAT happened....lol so that's how exciting it was...lol. nothing new that i thought about the movie. i still love it ;D

I think it is in the FAQ's or maybe it is just this board's protocol -
but ANY thread of a movie or episode is allowed spoilers - as the very definition of fully talking about the subject & the scroll down stars & things are always edited out by the moderators.
So beware if you are looking at any movie thread etc - as spoilers are part of the game for those threads.

The movie is a decade old. Why do we need to worry about spoilers?

True, and Robert E. Howard fans know his story. I haven't seen this movie yet, but the buzz sure has me interested. I read his works when I was a kid, I even collected Frank Frazetta prints for awhile. Sure wish I still had them--my mom threw them away because she thought they were indecent.

Oh Sarahlee, you got to be kidding me!! Your mom threw away the prints!! Geeze, at least she had a reason, she thought they were indecent. Hubby's mom threw away all of his baseball cards, cause they were taking up space. Hey Raeangel, thanks so much for getting back to me, as to why you deleted your post. LIke a couple of girls said, the movie is old, no reason for spoiler alerts. but most important....as one member Siernna said on the famous quotes thread "I may not agree with what you say but I'll defend to the death your right to say it." - Voltaire I believe in that too...so don't be afraid to say what you have to say

1)..i deleted it cuz i didn't want to suggest someone do something different than everyone else.
2) it's alright..it doesn't bother me that there are spoilers cuz i've already seen it...it doesn't matter to me one way or the other what the board rules are about spoilers...i was just thinking of others, but then realized it wasn't a big deal
3) the reason i was thinking of spoilers for a decade old movie is cuz there are still people out there who have not seen it. any info. about a movie you haven't seen is a spoiler
right? right...didn't mean to offend anyone by a deleted post (meaning..."i was wrong, you are right") about spoilers
