Hi, all,
Sorry I've been out of touch for so long. I hope to be around more from here on.
I'm not quite sure where to post this, so if it needs to be moved, feel free.
In case anyone hasn't seen it yet, I just wanted to let you know that an early (1988) D'Onofrio movie, Mystic Pizza, is showing tomorrow evening on the ABC network. It's on at 8pm Eastern time, so check local listings.
It's listed as a comedy-drama, and it's pretty light-weight as his movies go, but still entertaining.
D'Onofrio plays the boyfriend of one of the lead characters. There's a bit of a turn-around on the usual 'guys just want to have sex' situation, where he wants to get married, but the girlfriend "isn't ready" for that, though she enjoys the sex and wants it early and often. He confronts her on the issue, and D'Onofrio does a great job with a scene that most actors would have turned into a lame joke.

The movie works as an entertainment movie - moves along & such - but the story line is old hat over new clothes. However, it is another stone in the tower that is D'Onofrio - showing he did a part (& did it well) as a well rounded, small town fellow with no psychosis or other trama. A type of part he is not known for taking -so there we have another side of his "acting".
A good movie to watch if you want a decent ending and a decent feeling afterward. Nothing stellar or groundbreaking. Worth being made, not worth too much talk.

Sorry, my mistake. If you want to see Mystic Pizza, rent it, or buy it. Don’t watch it on network television.
I shudda remembahd -- all censors are bad censors.
Most of the strong language in the movie just got dubbed over, but the scene I mentioned in my first post? They cut the heart out of it. Which leaves that story line vague and muddled.
No offense to “Insider” (former regular of the SUSA board) if you read this board, but network standards are out of balance – and have been all along. The network version of this movie may have been dubbed years ago, but I doubt it would be much different today. Some of the graphic gore that shows these days is new, but all sorts of sexualized violence has run in prime time for decades. Yet this scene, that talked about wanting more out of a relationship than just sex, had to be gutted because it mentioned a male body part. Does that make any sense at all?

"Does that make any sense at all?"
To some censor I suppose. Equally applied standards would be ....at least interesting.
Oh, so it's different than shown on TV? Imagine. I enjoyed it anyway, I've never seen the movie before. And now I'll have to rent the DVD just to compare. I wish I could find Crooked Hearts (w/o resorting to EBay). I caught that on network TV not too long ago also and I'm still not sure what was going on.
But it was a nice quiet Saturday night with tax code and 4 hours of VDO (Criminal Intent sandwiched Mystic Pizza). Thanks for the heads up, Observer.

CROOKED HEARTS occasionally shows up on the WE cable network, as does HOUSEHOLD SAINTS. MYSTIC PIZZA is on that network nearly every month, although in an edited form, I think.

Has anybody noticed that this movie is really making the rounds this week? I was able to see it umpteen happy times. Nobody can play dumb and sweet like Vincent. That he has to beg Lilly Taylor to marry him is almost unbelievable!

I hate when they 'tone down' certian movies or TV shows to fit a range of viewers they were never meant to be for. For example, I was watching 'Walker, Texas Ranger' on Halmark & there was one scene where CD (the bar owner) said to Walker 'We'll get this bastard', & they blanked it out! The word 'bastard' really isn't that bad. It just means someone who is a product of unpure or unwed parentage... hey I've been called worse.
I won't watch a horror, thriller or sex comedy when it's aired on TV (i.e. Friday the 13th, American Pie, Scary Movie etc...) because they cut all the side-splitting funny or super intense parts out. I'm sorry folks, but part of what makes Friday the 13th Friday the 13th is the (dare I say it) s-e-x.

Yeah, portraying a man putting a relationship over sex! That's just radical!!
