another straight to DVD movie for D'Onofrio; that has to get frustrating once in a while.

Bummer! I was so hoping to seeing it on the big screen, stadium seating. Then going out to dinner afterwards and just making it into a nice date.

I too was looking forward to seeing Thumbsucker on the big screen. What happened at Sundance? I thought Thumbsucker got backing of some sort for its release into theaters? That is a bummer Cassie..What a disappointment. Shadow

Yah, all I heard out of Sundance about this film was raving about it ..... so why straight to DVD?
I was actually going to get to see a D'Onofrio flick in the actual THEATER - grumble.

Me too. The only one I've seen on the big screen was MIB. Even saw The Cell on DVD.....I didn't even know who Vincent was when I saw MIB....so that doesn't even count in my eyes.... I really did want one of his films to make it to the big screen for a change. Would like to know what happened...even Lou won a best actor award didn't he? So many good things were said about the film, that I just don't understand.. Shadow

The straight to DVD thing is a bummer and a half. Apparently they expect to make more in sales on the DVD than they do in limited/arthouse release, which is apparently what it was slated for... but still... I was so looking forward to seeing this on the big screen, the reviews coming from Sundance talked so much about what a wonderfully adventurous film it is VISUALLY... and some of that will probably get lost in translation on the small screen... That said, I'll be in the pre-sell queue for it over at Amazon as soon as it's available... kissy

Sounds like you and I will be doing the same thing Kissy...so I'll probably see you over there. Most of my films and DVDs come from Amazon too. Still waiting for Season 2 boxed set to be released......but I'm starting to wonder about that too.. Shadow

KATIE, can you provide the Netflix link, or at least post exactly what it says there about "Thumbsucker" being released on DVD? This is surprising news, since I had read the movie picked up a distributor for theatrical release in the fall of 2005.

Well that narrowed it down didn't it? Does that mean to theater or DVD or both? (I feel silly asking but I want to know!)

BobbyG from The Vincent D'Onofrio Forum emailed Sony directly and this is what she posted there. I contacted Sony Pictures Classics myself and asked them directly to confirm if "Thumbsucker" will be released in theaters or on DVD this coming September. Here is their reply:
Thank you for your interest in THUMBSUCKER.
The film will be released theatrically in September.
Best, Sony Pictures Classics So, it would seem that you will get a chance to see it on the big screen. Thank you very much for your permission to post their response, BobbyG.

One mystery solved. Now all we need is a definite date for the CI Season 2 DVDs release.

I heard at least 3 "vincent" fans posting about this flick after contacting some company.
I for one am glad that we first got a date to look forward to and then got even more information from another poster ..... sharing is caring.
Hope someone cares enough to SHARE any Season 2 info when they get it, I don't have time to scroll through a gazillion little specialty sites, so I really appreciate when someone posts here. ...... sharing is caring (oh, did I already say that?)
