Variety.comLevinson lays down 'Law'By JOSEF ADALIAN
NBC signs two-year deal with writer.NBC hasn't made a final call on the future of "Law & Order" yet, but that isn't stopping the conglom from giving a vote of confidence to co-exec producer Chris Levinson. Peacock's studio arm has inked a two-year overall deal with the scribe. She'll create and develop new projects for the studio, leaving "Law" regardless of what happens to the series. Levinson is also penning a draft of "Charlie Chan" for Fox and producer Jennifer Klein. Project, a reworking of the old franchise, has been mentioned as a starring vehicle for Lucy Liu. Laura Lancaster, senior VP of drama for NBC U TV Studios, said Levinson is the "rare writer who can combine procedural elements with a truly humorous voice. "We've developed with her the past couple seasons, and we really think she's got a hit show in her," Lancaster said. Most recently, Levinson teamed with Wolf Films to develop "The Circus," a pilot script about what happens to a town when a media frenzy ensues. It was set up at NBC last season. She's spent three seasons with Wolf, working on both "L&O" and spinoff "Trial by Jury." She had previously teamed with scribe Zack Estrin on "Tru Calling," "Party of Five" and "Miracles." Levinson and Estrin also wrote the ABC Family original pic "Picking Up and Dropping Off," which starred Scott Wolf and aired in 2003. Deal with Peacock was brokered by Endeavor.
