WGN, the Chicago based cable "superstation", has SPANISH JUDGES scheduled for tonight, March 30, 2005, starting at 8pm EST. It will probably be heavily edited, and it's not the greatest film to begin with. But Mr. D'Onofrio is mesmerizing in it. He plays a very bad guy, but one that I recall (from a long ago and fairly distracted viewing of this film) as having some sense of honor, which is more than can be said about most of the other characters in the film.

I really really liked this one.
The character was weak and striving to be strong; striving for things & then knowing it wasn't giving him what he wanted ....
nice twists that we see coming and the characters do not, so it gives some viewing tension as the story unfolds.
I didn't like the ending; but a-well.

I like this one, but would rate it close enough to be above The Salton Sea. Very odd character Max is, interesting none the less. To find it here in Oz, its titled "Ruthless Behaviour".
I love interesting facts about any film. Here's one for this -
Was originally an off-Broadway stage play, with such a low budget that the sound effects for gun shots were two-by-four's being clapped together.

Maxx is one of the most endearing of D'Onofrio's roles. He put a lot of layers into this character. I like this film.

Thought VDO was great in this movie, but all characters were bad guys in this movie, except the martian girl and Jack kills her. Hated him getting off at the end, just hope from the picture the girl drew they find him.

UK satellite viewers: Whilst watching the super bowl I found myself flicking through the various movie channels and stumbled upon this film being shown on Zone Thriller Channel (channel 322 on Sky Digital), I nearly flicked past it because over here (UK) the film is titled Ruthless Behaviour but it was listed under Spanish Judges, anyhow... its being repeated on: Saturday 10th February - 1.00am - Zone Thriller Channel
Monday 19th February - 11.20pm - Zone Thriller Channel

Strangely enough I recently viewed this again. Had seen it last year & didn't think much of it. Now, I definitely noticed the layers of the Max character. However, I still had a hard time feeling any empathy for him.
Sounds shallow, but the bald head distracted me from appreciating the acting VDO does with his face & eyes. In his case, his hair brings to life his facial features. He just looked mean to me, even when his eyes teared up when they were killing his partner.
