My TV listing shows MR. WONDERFUL playing tonight: Life channel, 8:00 pm CDT. VDO has only a few scenes, but he sings, and he is darling!

I liked this movie too. A very sweet, feelgood movie. Vincent has a very small part in it, but he is SOOOOO "Bobby Goren" .. I couldn't stop laughing! ;D

Oh, and the singing is terrible .. it is not his voice, also in Desire/Salt on our skin, they dubbed his voice ... ?!
Why? In Mr. Wonderful he does one line a capella and then it's his real voice and it sounds good!

I'm kind of glad to hear that the karaoke bit was not his real voice. Wasn't keen on that. But the acapella bit at the table, that was sweet. (I'd love to hear him sing like that in a CI episode.)

I’d love to hear him sing like that anytime! I keep hoping musicals will make a real comeback, and we’ll get to see – and hear! – him in one.
But you know, I think the other song in Mr. Wonderful was his voice, too. It was a studio recording that they dubbed in, of course – it’d be pretty unusual to do a song like that “live” in a take of a scene. But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t his voice. I don’t know about the woman’s voice; but I believe that was actually D’Onofrio’s voice they were dubbing in there – the pronunciation sounded like him, and, more importantly, it sounded like the timber of his voice. And I thought it was a rather impressive performance – including the ragged bit at the beginning. It’s not easy to deliberately produce a mistake and make it seem natural.
Of course, the most amazing demonstration I’ve ever seen of a good singer portraying a bad singer is in Happy Accidents, when Sam tried to sing. It was so awful! But not like a parody. It really was like someone trying hard to sing and just really not knowing how.

Did someone mention "Happy Accidents?" I love that movie! VDO's performances in HA, TWWW and VOG, exemplifies his ability as an actor. Gotta love him for that.

Observer; a poster who must be taking the summer off - (read where are you, Observer?) seems to think he has not only a decent singing voice, but a schooled one. I am not good at picking up nuances in singing - so I defer to Observer in this one.

I stopped by the other day (I didn’t have time to post then, but I’m sneaking in a little time today). It’d been so long, I’d forgotten about the “last ten posts” function – so I just scanned down and saw there was something recent in the D’Onofrio section... and though it wasn’t the top thread, I couldn’t resist checking out what people had said about Mr. Wonderful... so this was the one thread I read that day.
Maybe it was synchronicity... in any case, it certainly warmed my heart to know you were thinking about me. Thanks, Metella. This hasn’t been my easiest summer, and it’s nice to know you guys haven’t forgotten me.
As to whether D’Onofrio has a trained voice, I certainly think he has – and not only from the sound of it (marvelous as that is!). If you turn the sound off, especially during the song on stage, you can see that even with the level of singing he’s doing there, that he knows will be covered up by dubbing, he gives the impression of someone with training.
I used this thread as an excuse to check out those singing scenes again, and I spotted a real good example on the last note of that song they did on stage. If you freeze it when he comes back into the frame on that last “...me,” you can see the contrast between the way someone without voice training sings a long “ee” sound, vs. the way someone with training sings it.
If you look at the actress, she’s holding her mouth the way most people say the long “ee” sound – she’s smiling, so her lips are wide, but her mouth is almost closed, her teeth almost meet in front. D’Onofrio’s mouth is open, even on the long “ee” sound – something singers rarely learn to do on their own, without training.
Also, though I don’t know much about musical theatre, it just seems to me that they would be reluctant to hire an actor for a leading role in a musical if they didn’t have substantial voice training. No matter how good they sounded at an audition, I can’t imagine them trusting that an untrained person could do two performances a day over a period of many weeks, and keep their voice from giving out. Most untrained singers sing in ways that are actually pretty hard on their voices... And D’Onofrio has been in musical plays, including at least one in which he was one of the main characters – Tooth of Crime (Second Dance) – which has its own thread on the second page of this section.

& after all that, that dumb woman turned him down!!! I couldn't believe that , I would have been a puddle of boiling liquid on the floor of a man did that for me. I wish he had had a larger part in the movie, I would have loved to see more of his character. I can't help but wonder if he gave the impression of someone with voice training (I'm a singer myself, if he did 'act' it, he was pretty darn good) or can he really sing?

If your watching it for VDO, don't look for him until the second half of the film. It's a very small, but cute, part he has.
Annabella Sciorra was pretty good in this. She plays sweet & nice very well. Much better than solemn & introspective like her Barek character.
