He looks a good 10 - 15 pounds lighter this season. I see the difference in his cheeks, chest, and stomach.

Hello everybody another lurker coming out of the closet.
I agree he looks more rested now than last season, actually I think since he lost the extra weight he looks a little younger. As for the hair I am partial to the lawn mower cut.
Yes your right Sirenna, he is still mucho sexy!

New member delurking...just have to comment on this one.
My husband and VDO are very similar looking, in fact, my friends tease me that I have a "type" because they could be brothers...BUT, 5 years ago my DH developed MS as well as a severe additional nerve problem, and ,well, he's gone downhill fast. He used to be in perfect shape, but he's wasting away and even his mental powers are going.
My point? Enjoy VDO for what he is: chubby or thin, grey or not, stubbly or clean shaven. He's healthy so enjoy every second..I know I do...I look at him and see what might have been with my DH.

Oh, bless you and your husband, saharatea... You are in my thoughts.
I do enjoy Vincent, no matter his weight, hair, stubble... I think he is just plain lovely to look at. And from what I hear he is lovely in person, too.

No, see, people are more than their appearance...we know this, but Hollyweird keeps trying to convince us otherwise!

Hi from Germany where they've just started season 4. When I first saw the 'bloated' Det. Goren I was really shocked and started to worry about the actor. I think he looks as if he's sick with something grave and has to swallow medicine that plays havoc with his body, like cortisone or sth. Well, I hope I'm wrong but I had to take cortisone a few months ago, so I know what it does and how it makes you look.

He actually starts looking better in the latter half of Season 4. During Season 5 Mr. D'Onofrio looks a little heavy, but better. This season (6) I think he looks better than he has in a long time.

I saw 'semi-datached' yesterday and I have to admit the brushed back look gently greying is starting to work for me. It makes him look a lot stronger, more imposing overall.
You right, though, Saratea, what's inside is the gem.

This is my very first post on this board. Just joined.
Just wanted to say that I will take VDO in any season and at any weight, any hairstyle, stubble or not, etc., etc.
I love his acting and I cannot get over how he created such a character like Bobby Goren! The man is a genius.

hi ibjfish! nice to see you on this board, too.
hope VDO's waning weight this season is a sign of waxing health...!

I'll admit that as the shallow person I am, I think he would look a lot better 15 or 20 pounds lighter. In season 5, he didn't even have a jaw line for a while.. it just makes me sad because he's an attractive man, and I hate to see potential going to waste ;D
But I'm going to confess that VDO's weight was what originally got me watching the show more religiously.
For a while I didn't really think about his weight, but suddenly his suits started looking like they were hanging off of him... then next thing I hear was that he was collapsing on-set (I was just catching random re-runs at the time, so my chronology was off), and the first thing I thought was drugs. Then he reappears bloated... and only for half the season's episodes.... so I thought again... drugs, or trying to get off of them.
Don't get me wrong- I DON'T think the weight issues were caused by drugs now that I've paid more attention to the chronology of the show, and to all of your thoughts. I'm just saying that I'm glad 1. that his weight changes were intriguing enough to get me watching 2. that they are because of the physical needs of unrelated roles, and not major health/addiction issues, just for the general happiness of that news.
So, I guess the moral of this story is, where is the costume department? What with the ill-fitting suits- that seemed way too big a few seasons ago, and then seemed too tight to button last season- and that annoying tie clip... it seems as though they need a more careful designer on set!

And I think they could manage to come off a buck for the women's attire. Tank tops, t-shirts and hoodies? It seems a female detective in Major Case would want to dress more professionally. I doubt they observe "casual Fridays" every day of the week! But I think this is actually touched on in another thread.

I agree. It seems like the ADAs wear too nice of suits and the female detectives, too casual. It's ok for SVU where they are dealing with children, victims, etc. who may feel more comfortable with business casual.
I may have said this before, but I kind of like that the men's suits aren't perfect. I never have liked the detectives that look like they have a cousin in the garment district (Jimmy Smits, Dennis Farina if my spelling is right). But, there are lots of mistakes.
