Beyonce takes on role of Riverside legend November 30, 2008 By FIELDING BUCK The Press-Enterprise Beyonce Knowles puts on a blonde wig to impersonate Riverside's rock 'n' roll Hall of Famer Etta James in "Cadillac Records." If that's not reason to see this fact-based film about the Chess record label in the 1950s, you also get Mos Def as Chuck Berry, Jeffrey Wright as Muddy Waters and Adrien Brody as Leonard Chess. Writer/director Darnell Martin has a lot of "Law and Order" experience, heavy on the "Criminal Intent," so she must know how to handle big-name actors in guest-starring roles. The soundtrack, in one-disc, two-disc and LP versions, goes on sale Tuesday. It includes Def's remake of "No Particular Place to Go." Every year's end brings big-budget biopics such as "Ray" and "Walk the Line." This one must have fans of the genre singing "At Last." MOVIES: COMING OUT FRIDAY Sony Tristar Pictures Beyonce Knowles portrays Riverside rock 'n' roll Hall of Famer Etta James in "Cadillac Records," which opens in theaters Friday.
