The mothership bounced back beautifully from a ratings disappointment (for "Falling") with a slot in the current Nielsen broadcast weekly Top 20. (The episode: "Knock Off")
Congratulations to Rene Balcer and his fabulous creative and production team.

Thanks Annabelle! Great news. ;D So......Law & Order was the only network series in the top twenty for NBC. The only other listing for NBC was Sunday Night Football. Kudos to Rene & staff, cast & crew, for a job well done. I am thoroughly enjoying this seasons mothership series - it's must see TV in my book. CBS is having a great year. I remember not too long ago when it was in last place among the big networks. Whoever is in charge over there must be doing something right.

Hardly breaking news at this point, but L&O episode "Chattel" tied for 20th place in the Nielsen Top 20 broadcast ratings. Original airing of the child slavery story was Wednesday, January 7, 2009.
Just imagine what it might have done had NBC Entertainment deigned to do more than the minimum to promote this episode and its critical issue.

I wonder about some of these shows that do better than Law and Order, cause really I find it better this season, but maybe I am a minority. I really can't get into Cold Case or Mentalist. Even Without a Trace which I used to watch, I got tired of.
Now my question, How much of television do people watch out of habit, not out of enjoyment. I mean, you have always watched Desperate Housewives ( I never have) and even if you don't really like it anymore, you just keep watching. I have heard people say LOCI has gone downhill and they don't like the way the show is going, but they continue to watch, why? Habit?

Yes, I guess some of it is somewhere between habit and enjoying the show without acutally being a fan. I would even say that's the vast majority of the people that watch any show. And a lot of people will watch, simply because they don't know what else to do (habit). Some people just like some shows, without a logical explanation for it - you take to some shows, and you don't to others. Also, sometimes it's important on which episode you tune in, or which actors are in the show. For example, I really enjoy Cold Case. Its editing is terrific, and Lilly Rush (Kathryn Morris) carries the show. But I was also lucky to see some very nice episodes when I first tuned in. And even then it took a while until I really got into it. I also like Without a Trace and NCIS, both of which I started watching for an actor (Eric Close and Mark Harmon, respectively). I don't really follow either of the shows anymore, but will watch occasionally. I agree that WaT used to be better and I resent the rightist propaganda that NCIS sometimes is... I even had a long run until I actually got hooked on LOCI. I do a lot of my ironing while watching TV, and so it just happened that it would be on now and then - usually I wouldn't see whole episodes. At some point tough, I got hooked, Bobby captivated me. Again, I think it was a line-up of a few episodes that sealed the deal (in that case "The Third Horseman" & "Purgatory" mostly, as they aired in the course of one week and I liked both episodes). Then, I've never gotten hooked on other shows that many other people like - CSIs, Lost, 24, Desperate Housewives,... I guess I would very much enjoy CSI:NY because I like Gary Sinise, but still it's never quite gotten me. If it's any comfort to you - Around here Cold Case got pulled out of it's spot because it frequently looses to LOCI which aires in the same timeslot on another network. Sorry, I trailed of a little...

I started watching Desperate Housewives and Lost when the shows first aired. Lost was more interesting than DH, but I soon lost interest. These shows become somewhat confusing when you're not able to watch every single episode. Then, my babies were born and I hadn't the time and energy to follow any show. I tune in sometimes. But I'm not into them at all. The only show I really watch (and make my husband watch with me ;D ) is LOCI. And, oh, my husband is an interesting example. He doesn't watch any show on TV (he's more interested in cricket and soccer)- except "Monk", which we like a lot, too- but I get the feeling that he enjoys watching the show with me. We talk a lot about the episodes, the characters, and so on. I wouldn't call him a "fan"- no way- but he enjoys the entertainment. There must be something about the show. I still enjoy the show, I wouldn't tune in anymore if I didn't. I know a lot of people that watch TV out of a habit, which is very sad. Most of them aren't really interested in what they are watching. Some people/ families have the TV tuned on the whole day. Hooked? Yes, on the TV, but not necessarily on a show. We don't watch much TV here. We love to talk with each other, play with the kids, go outside to take a walk, we have a lot of friends coming over every now and then and so on. And sometimes I feel like a minority Oh, and one last confession ;D - I watch Men in trees, but just because I want to take a glimpse of an actor I liked very much when I was much, much younger
