Commiserations to all the lovely blummies on the Oscar/Globes miss, but look, missing the final list isn't even an itty-bitty slight of JG. The man personally received almost unanimous raves from all over the press world, from Variety to the sniffy Wall Street Journal. Take it as some reviewers did, a comment on the difficult and possibly not easily digested or likable nature of the movie itself. I quote from a reviewer above: " Goldblum’s biggest obstacle appears to be his own film".
That said, the showers of praise poured over his personal performance makes him a real winner, not just to fans but to the powerful movers and shakers within the profession. And how rewarding it must be for him, personally and career-wise, to have invested himself so deeply in a project and be recognised with such thunderous applause from the critics' circle. ------- A BIG THANK YOU Dragonsback.

24th ISRAEL FILM FESTIVALYesterday marked the first night of the 24th Annual Israeli Film Festival. There was a reception and awards ceremony at the SVA Theater... Paul Schrader's most recent release, "Adam Resurrected," received a special presentation at the 2009 IFF. The star of the film, Jeff Goldblum was also in attendance. This is what he had to say about the film: "Well, first I read the book by Yoram Kaniuk and met him. He's a dear and brilliant, inspiring, special man, and artist, and that book is amazing and then luckily I had the part. I knew I was going to do it about a year before I did it, so I immersed myself in studying about history and the Holocaust. I went to Israel for the first time, I went to Europe and saw the most intact concentration camp." Goldblum says that being part of this project was life-changing and emotional. He talked to survivors in Europe, New York and Los Angeles. It turns out that Director Paul Schrader hand-picked Goldblum for the role. "It's specular! Delighted, honored, humbled, and excited. What a great film festival and to have your film shown here--very flattering and very nice," Goldblum said. I thought so too Donnajo and was particularly pleased that Paul Schrader received a special honour which was presented by Jeff - very appropriate.
