To be aired on NBC Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 10 PM ET. No other information available at this time.
Much earlier this season L&O was casting "authentic lifeguards" and expert swimmers as background players (source: nycastings.com). Perhaps for this ep?

Very interesting.... I wonder how Lupo & Bernard would get involved in a crime involving a beach, or lifeguards? There are no beaches in Manhattan. SVU & Major Case cover crimes in all five boroughs. The mothership is supposed to be precinct specific. Maybe the crime takes place at a local swimming pool. And doesn't the title suggest the Navy or Coast Guard?

As long as there are no scuba divers. Nothing against them, but they do not in recent memory seem to make a good L & O show.

NBC episode description. No scuba divers apparent D-Roe. ;-)
AL ---------------------------- ANCHORS AWAY Airdate: Wednesday, March 25, 2009, 10 PM ET
THE MURDER OF A TELEVISION REPORTER LEADS THE DETECTIVES TO A MAJOR HEDGE FUND FRAUD
While investigating the murder of television reporter Dawn Prescott (Guest Star Audra Blaser), detectives Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) and Bernard (Anthony Anderson) discover that she was involved in a love triangle involving another reporter at the station Joe Lee. This leads them to another suspect, veteran anchor Joe Delaney (Guest Star David Rasche), who was threatened by the success of his younger co-workers and may have hacked into their email to gain an advantage.
As they search for the killer, the detectives uncover that Dawn was working on a major story surrounding a huge hedge fund fraud and there may be a connection with the recent murder of Fred Decker, a whistle-blower who filed an SEC suit against a hedge fund owner.

Thanks Annabelle. Still can't figure out where the lifeguards would fit in. So in spite of the title, maybe that casting isn't for this episode?

DJ -- when I see these casting calls I always try to figure out what sort of story demands the particular extras and background parts. I never have a clue.
I have noticed that practically every other L&O call is for an "authentic" something (with one's own uniform), whether it's lifeguards, EMTs, cops, firefighters, etc. Apparently there are any number of New York City public safety employees with SAG cards -- and what we see on L&O, in the background, is usually both life and art. ;-)

Also cast in this episode: the notable actors Edward Hermann and Jill Eikenberry; they play a married couple.
"Anchors Away" -- airing this Wednesday, March 25th at 10 PM ET -- is the last new episode on the schedule through mid-April.

Based on the promos, this episode looks fantastic. ;D Edward Hermann appears to be a Bernie Madoff type character. How close he & his crimes are to the actual creep remains to be seen. I am continually amazed how the mothership (specifically show runner Rene Balcer) tackles and presents to us today's pertinent issues, yet films these episodes months ago. A crystal ball? More likely great research that indicates the handwriting on the wall. Much better than other shows that scramble to film a RPTH storyline days after it happens ("Bombshell")

No beaches in Manhattan but lots of public pools and YMCA type places that would require lifeguards.

DJ, this is indeed the mothership's take on Bernie Madoff's outrageous Ponzi scheme -- and (I'm informed) its criticism of the media for its failure to investigate and report the story. And (I'm also told) the episode was produced two months prior to Jon Stewart's excoriation of Jim Cramer and CNBC! Yes -- what foresight.
I'm very much looking forward to tonight's episode (10 PM ET, NBC).
