I have never watched The Invasion starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig and didn't know it was a remake of The Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It's now a must-watch for me. I do recommend the 1978 Golden Oldie remake! ----- Excerpt Well, I’m sure a lot of purists will disagree, but I thought it was decent. Having good actors really makes a difference. People who can act can be a lot of fun to watch pretend. I guess I should warn you about spoilers. Pff, the movie I’m talking about is almost two years old, though. Sunday night I sat down to watch The Invasion, with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. If you don’t know already — and with the movie almost two years old I don’t know why anyone but me wouldn’t know this by now — it’s a remake of the classic sci-fi tale Invasion of the Body Snatchers. There’s a lot of action, excitement, tension, and sneaking about the Washington DC area. The original movie from 1956 sort of leaves the situation unresolved. In fact, the movie ends with the audience wondering if the raving doctor is believed or not, as I recall (and it’s been a LONG time since I’ve seen it, so I can’t say). In the 1978 version, it’s Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Jeff Goldblum and Veronica Cartwright (who is featured in this remake as well, which I found extremely cool) squaring off against “pod people”, just like in the ‘56 version. This time, though, the resolution is not left to imagination of the viewer. The Earth and its inhabitants lose. Veronica Cartwright is the last human seen in the movie, and she succumbs too. I love the version with Nicole Kidman, Jeffan! Also, Daniel Craig (James Bond) is great as the hero/love interest. And I love the satisfying ending. I vaguely remember the version with Donald Sutherland. And I am embarrassed to say that I don't recall which role Jeff Goldblum had?

IIRC, the '78 version also starred Leonard Nimoy. He's why I tuned into the remake. ;D

Leonard Nimoy? Now I must see it. I've been a Spock fan my entire life. ;D
Anyone else excited about the remake of original Star Trek? The film is coming out soon, I think.

Be even more excited DJ as Leonard Nimoy is starring in the remake as "Old Spock"! Simon Pegg, one of my favorite actors, is playing Scotty. I think it is due to be released in May/June of this year.
Don't be embarrassed DJ in not remembering Jeff in The Invasion as he was a twenty-something and the film was made early in his career.

Spock is my all time favourite character. I'm looking forward to the remake and seeing Mr. Spock again, in the form of LM, of course..

Yes, the new Star Trek movie is due this summer - I'm curious where it'll lead them. I've always liked Star Trek and Spock in particular. For a time (long time ago ) I used to get my hand onto everything Vulcan I could. If there had been a way to point my ears, I'd probably done that, LOL :-) Even my screenname is related to "Vulcan culture", though the correct way to spell it would be "T'Jara". The forum wouldn't allow that, tough. Besides Star Trek, I never really had a spot for Sci-Fi. Well, maybe Quantum Leap, but that never had the Sci-Fi feel...

Very cool, tjara, about the origin of your user name being connected to the Vulcan culture. Jeffan, I had no idea Leonard Nimoy was reprising Spock in this new film. How fantastic! I wonder what the connection will be between old Spock & new Spock. It couldn't be...his son, could it? That would be wild.

DJ, the new Star Trek is a prequel to TOS; we will be seeing events prior to the happenings in the original. Perhaps Old Spock is seen reminiscing? I'm looking forward to seeing Capt. Pike again. He'll be played by Bruce Greenwood this time around. I'm also looking forward to hearing, for the last time, Majel Barrett-Roddenberry again as the voice of the ship's computer.

Gosh, the trekkies are coming out of the closet! Count me in and "live long and prosper". They'll understand that quote.
I never quite got into Deep Space Nine but I love Startrek Voyager. The opening sequence never fails to send shivers up my spine.
There is a "young Spock" DJ, so "old Spock" could be his dad!

Thank you Nikki. I didn't read your post before replying to DJ. Now I'm really looking forward to it's release.

Donna, may I direct you this way? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_(film)To me, it looks like 24th century Spock will meet his younger self in a kind of time-travel. That would make sense, because we left off Spock fighting for the Romulan-Vulcan (Re-)Unification... I'm curious at how it will turn out, and how the new cast will go about their roles... My heart is a little sad though, I really can't picture anyone else but Mark Lenard as Sarek. I hope we don't have to wait too long for this... My favourite shows have always been TOS and Enterprise (remember, Quantum Leap ;D ), but what I liked more was the world that was portrayed, the idea of how humas overcame their faults and made a better life.

I saw the '78 version of Invasion of the Bodysnatchers when it came out. I remember it being on TV when I was a kid. Maybe it was on cable at that point. My uncle had HBO. . .anyway, it scared the crap out of me! I loved scary movies and that ending scene with Donald Sutherland and his finger pointing, his mouth open wide with that awful scream. . . Eeeee! I just got the heebie jeebies all over again!

Oh, I have to go with the original 1950s black and white INVASION. It's not nearly as technically proficient as the later models, but it seems to capture Cold War hysteria very well.
Leonard Nimoy is very good in the 1970s version.
I love STAR TREK. I could easily have become a Trekker, but I can have only so many obsessions. Spock was always my favorite character (h-m-m....troubled male with divided loyalties who has trouble with emotions. Remind us of anyone?)
I understand that in the hierarchy of fandom, STAR TREK is considered above STAR WARS. A friend of mine (in neither camp) was at a premiere for one of the STAR WARS movies in the midst of the costumed fanatics. A limo came by, a guy dressed as Spock stepped out, looked at the STAR WARS fanatics, and said, "Losers." He then got back in the limo and was driven away.

ROTFL! I'll confess to being an avid Star Wars fan, but not enough to dress in character. Okay. . .well. . .not since I was C-3PO for Halloween when I was 10.
