Saw it this weekend, shocking movie, wow can VDO and Thomas Jane kiss, made me believe he was bisexual, the character that is. Disturbing movie but he is a great actor. And Bobby and Nicole in a porn movie, before CI, shocking, lol. In the movie it said Elizabeth D'Onofrio played Dorothy, the only person I saw referred to as Dorothy was the deaf transvestite (sp) who was male that was in love with Gary. Also there was another D'onofrio listed as running boy, will have to look again to see who was running boy. Does anyone know what scenes? I know Elizabeth is his sister, wonder if anyone knows who the running boy is.

I enjoyed this movie also. Some great acting by the obviously straight VDO. Loved the scene in the dance club.
Dorothy was the homeless woman. She is really a side character & you have to look for her. The best scene of hers is the one at the end when Valentino's dog returns. She is the first one to find him. There is also a scene of Valentino & Dorothy together when the dog is a puppy.
Vincen't nephew Hawk is running boy, he is Elizabeth's son. Running boy is either at the very end or very beginning of the movie. He is running on the street near the porno theatre, I think.

What made it even more powerful and passionate was that it was filmed in a vey close, intimate way that you were drawn into the scene by the strength of the performances. The scene, for me at least, became less about the gender of either person and more about how their lives being driven by their sexuality, anything to hold off the emotional emptiness that was at the center of their beings. Is it wrong to admit that I found that scene incredibly sexy and hot? I'm not homophbic, love whomever you wish and be blessed, I just wished VDO had been kissing a girl like that! Why can't they have him as Bobby sweep Alex off her feet like that! That boy knows how to kiss! WOW! P.S. Was that VDO's hair? It was so stringy and greasy; he's so good looking, that the hair was kinda gross.

Well, looks like I'm in a minority here but I thought this was one of the worst movies that I've ever made myself sit through. Bisexuality doesn't shock me, those were some of the most engaging scenes of the film, but I couldn't get past the ridiculous story and staging, the odd dialogue, hokey sets and the fact that I found myself laughing at points which were obviously supposed to be dramatic.
I am a major VDO fan but really, this must surely have been one of the films he made just for the paycheck??? I special ordered it from the US, but I don't think I'll be giving it a second viewing!!

Anyone here with a cultish fascination for this film may be interested to learn that HBO has just announced it will produce a new 10-part "dark comedy" called "Hung" about a "well-endowed football coach." It stars VDO love interest "Gary" -- actor Thomas Jane.
(I know, I know -- I am stepping away from the keyboard now.)

Cultish fascination is about right. In my experience, it's also pretty good without sound

I don't know if "liked" is the word for my feelings about this movie. I was fascinated by the world it examined, and I thought Mr. D'Onofrio was terrific. But Selma Hayek was way over the top, and I'm completely puzzled as to why Thomas Jane keeps getting work as an actor. I've seen Japanese cartoons more animated than him.

Yea, but if he doesn't know how to use it...
(Good heavens, did I write that? Blushes)

Oh I would hope not, H-42. It was a ludicrous, underfunded film based on a bad play, and poorly executed in so many ways -- writing, acting, directing, editing. Lighting and make-up too!
Remember that, in addition to starring in it, D'Onofrio was also executive producer -- an EP who obviously lost control of his production.
As we know, this film continues to draw attention because it has some genuine and profoundly tender moments -- and because VDO (the actor, not the EP) delivered. His was a performance that crackled with charisma and eroticism. And that's his career pattern, more or less, isn't it?: Often notable performances in movies that are either unimportant and/or just plain awful.

I wonder if he actually did anything as an executive producer or merely lent his name to help the production get money?

Well, he did hire both his sister and his nephew to be in the film. So he had some imput into production in the casting area.
I can't see VDO ever just putting his name on a project. He's too hands on (meaning a control freak) ;D
