Boy, things are different now. I got my SS# when I was in high school about 100 years ago. I think one of the reasons they are handed out at birth is, most likely some people claimed dependent children they didn't have

Like VDOfan says, not that it matters, but I like it too!! Luca, one site, says its from Luciana, a southern town in Italy.... www.baby-talk.co.uk/boys_L-Q.htmDoes he have a middle name? I think everyone should have a middle name

Sabry will probably tell you, but Luca is just Italian for Luke. I think it's a terrific name for a little boy with an Italian surname, but then I'm partial that way And it goes well with his other kids' names, not that it's much of my business ... Sadly, just as I was posting this, "My name is Luka" by Suzanne Vega came on my Rhapsody dynamic playlist. I would prefer not to have those associations

Congratulations and best wishes to the entire D'Onofrio family on the birth of Luca. Interesting name choice--I wonder if it's a family name of a grandfather or uncle? Although I confess I was secretly hoping Gregory would have been chosen as either a first or middle name in memory of the late Mr. Hines.
Luca. I'll have to start getting used to it. The only Lucas I know are a great little Italian family restaurant and a certain Mr. Brasi from The Godfather.

ahah In a world of extravagant names finally someone who uses a name normal In italy Luca is a very, very common name, We say that all know that a person whose name is Luca Because it was very fashionable a few years ago. But as a name I think it's nice that it comes from the area of Lucania but no one here uses it for what usually is used without special significance Perhaps have a relative with the Italian name

We had a foreign exchange student from northern Italy (Milan) staying with us for a few weeks last year. His name was Luca. He told us that his name was very common in Italy.
Techguy, I keep thinking of Luca Brasi from The Godfather, too.
It's a nice name. The kids at school will shorten it to Luke when conversing with him, I'm sure.
Is it me, but I expected a bigger baby, at least 8 pounds. VDO is very big & Carin is tall too. Big parents usually have big babies.

I thought of the Godfather immediately and my second thought was pizza. I thought the baby would weigh more too but that's a good healthy weight. Maybe he's long. And I found this: The meaning of the name Luca is: Light.

I have a friend and her son ( who is now a teenager) is named Luca. They are Italian and it fits very well.
Welcome Luca D'Onofrio and God bless you little man.

Ah, such a relief after all that Valentino and Auspicious stuff ;D
Luca is a good name, sounds good with his last name, too.
Does the size of the mother really matter? It seems to me that an 8lb baby can't be easy to push out no matter how big your are. Even not being her first, I don't envy Mrs. D'O for that one at all.
My first daughter was 7lbs 5 oz, and the second was 8lbs 12 oz. I thought I was going to die trying to get her out. But I admit, I'm a small person. I'm only 5"3 and weigh about 110.
