I get madder and madder as the hours go on.
I'm creating this thread in the hopes that you will post your letters and comments protesting the "loss" of Robert Goren here. It may give others ideas for wording...
I am copying AL's post from the renewal thread so you have the addresses.
Though the Nielsen ratings will be the true test, I say that those who want to send a message to key NBCU executives should do so. In fact I urge you to write, for yourselves as well as the actors. If enough people (and that is, thousands) take immediate action I don't think the effort will be wasted.
Bonnie Hammer President NBCU Cable Entertainment and Universal Cable Productions
Snail mail address: 3000 West Alameda Avenue Burbank, CA 91523-0002
I suggest a short, well-composed postcard (or multiple postcards) rather than letters. Clearly state your displeasure with the decision to dump Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe and your request that the decision be reversed. Three good, focused sentences will more likely be taken seriously than a lot of scribble. Try to stay polite. Don't make threats; don't say anything bad about Jeff Goldblum. Definitely spell and grammar check before sending; and write legibly (or use a printer).
A huge pile of postcards is likely to have more impact than e-mail but you can also try:
bonnie.hammer@nbcuni.com
You might also send the same message to her immediate USA subordinate Jeff Gaspin, same snail mail address, and jeff.gaspin@nbcuni.com.
And don't delay. Do it on Monday if not today. Also, if you post on other CI or VDO boards, you would do well to pass this information on ASAP. If Vincent D'Onofrio really has as many steadfast fans as everyone here thinks, a strong, grassroots effort should be fairly easy to mobilize.

Here is what I wrote (it's probably not going to sway anyone, but it's a voice).
Dear Ms Epstein
I am completely dismayed with the recent news about Law & Order Criminal Intent.
Over the years I have been taken for a great ride - the fabulous evolution of Robert Goren. He began as a precocious puppy and matured through adversity to a dignified mature man, all incarnations brilliantly and subtly portrayed by Vincent D'Onofrio. Kathryn Erbe’s Eames is his perfect fit. Yin to his Yang.
I don’t believe their stories are finished and know there is a huge need for intelligent scripting, acting and production. To my delight, Criminal Intent has always filled that role.
I will mourn the loss of the Goren and Eames characters and celebrate the pleasure they have given me.
When they are gone from Criminal Intent, so am I.
Respectfully,
|

Delighted to see that someone has started a similar thread over at the USA Board. Annabelle's information was copied & pasted, and she has been credited as an insider. Perhaps someone at USA involved with LOCI might read their own message board? One can only hope.

Thank you quietfire and AL!
I have sent mine to the addresses given and asked others to do the same from my personal friend list, at my Facebook account, Facebook Law and Order Criminal Intent, Facebook Robert Goren fans, and Facebook Kathryn Erbe Fans. Hope it helps.

That is divine, QFC. What a superb choice of screen cap you've made (I recognise Papyrus, but what's the 'yearning' typeface?). Sadly, that's the Goren I want back, but he left so, so, so long ago.
Never mind. I wish all of you here who labour for his return every success.

Yearning is what I do best (snort) - hand-lettering. That word went into a set of words I did recently and FPS was on my shoulder as I did it. It also made its way onto my latest vid.

I saw this email address had popped up on the USA board;
Senior VP of Network Publicity Jean Guerin.

Oooo, guy or girl? (Am I revealing my French-Canadian leanings?)

Okay y'all, here is the email I sent to Bonnie Hammer at USA. I also sent it to Jeff Gaspin and Jean Guerin at NBCU and substituted "USA" with "NBCU/USA".
Dear Ms. Hammer,
I am writing this email to express my sincere disappointment and displeasure with the USA network in their handling of my favorite show, Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Vincent D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe have worked tirelessly over the last eight seasons to bring us a well-acted, captivating show. Eric Bogosian stepped into the role vacated by Jamey Sheridan and won over a decidedly skeptical audience. All three deserve much more respect than they have received from your network.
It is Vincent’s portrayal of Bobby Goren that has captured me and held me all these years. I have watched Bobby’s evolution from the smart, slightly neurotic, slightly eccentric detective who seemed to have it all together to the smart, slightly neurotic, slightly eccentric detective who definitely did not have it all together. His descent into despair, and the subsequent slow, torturous climb out of that pit has been a joy to watch. I want more of it.
I want USA to give Criminal Intent, it’s lead characters, and the actors who made the show a success the respect they are due. Vincent and Kathryn have given their all to the show for eight seasons. Eric has done so for the last three. Pushing them out this way will not only ruin the show, but it will cause the majority of us loyal viewers to stop watching. We have been steadfast through changes which included the splitting of duties, which brought about the addition of a second team of detectives, the writer’s strike which caused a huge gap in the airing of Season 7, the long, long wait for Season 8, and the terrible travesty that was the episodes being aired out of order. That order mix-up caused Vincent’s brilliant portrayal of Bobby Goren’s recovery to get lost in the shuffle, which is a shame because he did it so beautifully.
And yet, here we are still, holding to our beloved show. But now that Vincent and Kathryn will no longer be there, neither will I. I am sorry to say this, but that is the honest truth. I would ask you respectfully to reconsider this decision. Give us Goren and Eames back for a full Season 9. Even if Season 9 would be the last one of the show’s run, it would be a much more fitting end to give the show and its characters the proper send off they deserve. Cutting Goren out after the season opener is a shoddy way to handle such a beloved character. I would urge you to rethink this decision.
Thank you very much for your time.
I also printed out four of QFC's postcards and here is the text I put with those:
Dear Ms. Hammer,
I respectfully urge you to reconsider your network’s decision to oust Vincent D’Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe, and Eric Bogosian from the cast of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. I am sincerely disappointed and disillusioned by the treatment of these wonderful actors, and by the disrespectful way the founding characters of my beloved show are being treated.
I am not alone in this sentiment. If they go, you will lose a legion of loyal viewers, including me. Please reconsider. Thank you.

I don't know if this question is allowed but what makes you think Vincent D'Onofrio wants to stay on the show?
My perception of the whole thing is that he is at peace with it.
I don't want to hurt somebody's feelings. God knows I admire the dedication VDO fans had and still have towards the character. It's more than I can say for myself.

Good question mimi, and yes all things are discussed here, i cant see why it would be a problem to ask that question I myself think as you do, each to their own, but im sure Vincent has a life after Bobby Goren, and is eager to pursue his new ventures, im happy for him jmho (My perception of the whole thing is that he is at peace with it.) I think your perception is right mimi

Absolutely love the postcard, Suzanne. I have thick stock paper at work, so I plan on printing quite a few of them & sending them out. That being said, I hope that if our plan works and USA/NBCU decides to renegotiate a deal with VDO, that he is open to meeting them halfway. Let's face it - they will not pay him $350,000 per episode anymore. If Vincent insists on his old amount, nothing we do will change anything. Mimi, I think you make a good point. We really don't know how VDO feels, do we? It's all conjecture. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise for him. He can leave the show and the blame isn't his, but the greedy network execs.
