Yes, bring back the doink doink.
According to The Hollywood Reporter article, "CI was on the bubble this summer and the actor's contracts expired in July."

LOL - I agree - bring them back.
LO:CI was on the bubble when it was transferred to cable and, if I remember reading the archives correctly, this became the norm every year. Yep, Jeff decided not to renew his contract and, apparently, he is in negotiations with Wes Anderson (who also is in London) to do another film. His previous collaboration with this director was The Life Acquatic in 2004.

I disagree. It is not only about money. I am sure that is the bottom line, but that is not the only reason.
Oh...let me clarify...it may be about money for the network...but I don't believe Vincent is coming back only for the money. Not at all.

Word, Moonbeam! We need writers who "get" Goren and Eames.

It isn't hard to imagine VDO playing real hardball on this one, negotiating a nice hefty contract for himself. More power to him.

Fantastic news. I wonder how whispers of it didn't get out before the official announcement. Hopefully they can get a few writers back from the earliest seasons and have a real sendoff. I always hated the soap, and while I love Jeff Goldblum I found it hard to let go of the original team and felt the writing of season 9 let him down by often being subpar. I'd be willing to put up with a bit more soap "Dallas style" to reboot and get the Goren and Eames team back together...Eames wakes up, the whole of season 9 was just a dream...Ross is still alive...and Bobby's in the shower (not hers)....

LOL Meggy. Love your idea. My concern is this. How to bring Eames (Erbe) back as Goren's partner, when Saffron Burrows has a contract for the role. VDO's hiring didn't boot anybody off the show, since Jeff voluntarily left. If Saffron has to stay, then perhaps Kate could return in another role. Not as Captain, since the same contractual problem stands with MEM. But I'm sure they could come up with something. I could live with Saffron Burrows, as long as Goren was back.

It was reported that their contracts expired in July. I don't know how reliable The Hollywood Reporter is. They're the only source that mentioned the contracts.

Thanks for that info about the contracts, Moonbeam. I feel so much better. Without that as an obstacle, I'm sure Kathryn will be back! I just hope they don't try to take advantage of her and do pay her accordingly.

I almost feel I should write Bonnie Hammer a note on my prettiest stationery, as I bombarded her with postcards back when this all went down.
The shelf life of Fluff, well, they'll be able to make sandwiches for the crew well into the shoot.

This from Showbiz411 suggests Ms. Erbe is coming back too:D’Onofrio, Erbe Back to “Law & Order: CI”: We Told You 2 Weeks Ago By: Roger Friedman in Exclusives, Television // September 21st, 2010 at 5:58 PM UTC
The official news is out that “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” is coming back to USA Network with its original stars.
Yes, I told you on September 5th in this very column that Vincent D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe were on their way back. It’s too funny to read it in what I now call “Deadline Yesterday.”
The show went back into production a week ago.
Anyway, so it is, as the stars were booted from the show a season ago and replaced with Jeff Goldblum. But Goldblum did one season on his own and abruptly quit. The world of Dick Wolf has never been an easy one, that’s for sure. But it’s good to have two “L&O” shows still operating in New York.
The loser in all this is Eric Bogosian, whose character was killed off preemptively. It’s not known if anyone else from that original cast will return. A source tells me, “They kind of want to start over.”

Thanks Techguy. Yes, it does sound like Kate is coming back. I really can't imagine anyone else who has left reprising their role. Besides, there will need to be room on the show for these castmembers slated for Dick Wolf's pilot. Will this pilot be for Law & Order: Miami, a rumor floating around some sites? Personally I hope not. It's enough that we'll have a new Law & Order location in LA. On a purely shallow note, I do hope that Goren comes back rested, refreshed, and looking fine (not like the character he plays in his short film "Crackers.")

Quick note about the "whispers"....the interns were out weeks ago, starting threads to see if they could generate any comments about bringing Goren and Eames back...and then there are those threads about the "Miami" show. Nobody was really biting. Everyone is sick of being jerked around and burned by these folks that come out to leak info. Most of us simply ignored them until the "real news" actually came out. Now it's a PARTY!

There's more meat to chew on in this excerpt from TVseriesfinale:Law & Order: Criminal Intent: USA Renews and Cancels TV Show; No Season 11?
Last month, we reported that USA Networks was considering cancelling its long-running Law & Order: Criminal Intent series. After a number of different scenarios were supposedly bandied about, the cable channel has made up its mind — or has it?...
...Executive producer Dick Wolf said, “Only time will tell if this is a fond farewell or a renaissance for Detective Robert Goren but everyone is ecstatic about going back to work on a show that’s a passion for all of us.”
Interestingly, Jeff Wachtel, president of original programming for USA, doesn’t sound totally committed to ending the show. He said “We have been the fortunate caretakers of this legendary series, and we plan to give it the world-class farewell it so richly deserves. Dick and his team promise to create a major event for television with incredible surprises. The plan is for this to be the series finale, but with a Dick Wolf franchise, one really never knows until it’s over.”
