I think I need to clarify something...CI has always been a "whydunnit" and I like it that way. That isn't what I mean at all.
To use your example, I like the episode Rocketman for many reasons, but the plot is not one of them. It's obvious, contrived, and pretty lame. It was taken directly from the original story and a few things changed, but there was no real thought put into that plot, nothing new, no twists.
What saves that episode for me is the caliber of the performances and back-and-forth between Goren and Ross. I really do like the episode enough to overlook the mundane plot.
And Jeffan, I have to make one point...and this is totally my opinion. Maybe other folks liked the ad campaign for S9, but I hated it. It sucked. All those promo ads playing up the "quirky" and "sexy" were "fluff" in my opinion. It was a flashy, Hollywood style promotion. It reminded me of the IPS commercials that focused heavily on explosions and sex. (Oh what a memorable clip that was of Mary in all her naked glory on the bed after a hot bout of sex saying "Oh God") - And those promos which focused on the "sexy" used that shot of SB in the evening gown from one of the eps.
At that point it looks to me like CI sells out. It becomes just another show trying to use skin and sex to get ratings and to hell with the actual story or any actual acting...of which, from the reviews I have read, it seemed that SB didn't do much of. Which is what I predicted last year...she was signed on to bring the "HOT" factor to the show. And it fell flat because CI's demo doesn't seem to be real interested in a pretty face and nice figure unless it comes with acting chops.
As it does in Kathryn Erbe. Good grief, what a beautiful woman she is! Sexy? Absolutely! And smart enough to know that she doesn't have to use the "sexy" part to get noticed when she has a true gift for acting. Which shines through when you watch her on-screen, whether it's as Alex Eames or another character.
The mistake TPTB made with those cast changes is the fact that they wanted to slick it up...make it Hollywood HOT and get a big name. Jeff is a great actor...but I didn't feel he was a great fit for CI. That's nothing against his ability...it's just how it seemed to me during S8. Zach was a likable character, but he didn't "grab" me. And I saw enough of SB in Loyalty to feel like "meh". She's beautiful and that's what they wanted.
It's not a problem with USA - or even NBC. It's the TV industry in general. They sacrifice quality on the alter of selling flesh for fantasy. Or selling humiliation in the form of "reality tv". I always hope for better with each new season, and I am always disappointed. However, with new dramas like "The Whole Truth" and "Outlaw" on my DVR (for when I have time for a sit-down), we'll see if maybe things *are* better this time.

DJ, I have to be honest. *I* am matter-of-fact and can be quite direct and blunt, as you have all seen over the past year or so. *They* were simply rude and happy to be so. There is a difference between being direct and being a jerk.
And OMG, MJ!! LOL! Leave it to you to break it down in one sentence! ;D

She has a smile that could light up the sky. Unfortunately we never got to see it on CI. She is one the most underrated and under appreciated actors on TV.

Even though I previously stated that I had made the last drumbeat in this thread, I just want to thank you, OBC, for your “clarification” in relation to LO:CI. From my perspective, I didn’t see any value in comparing two shows with completely different premises.
Ah well - moving on…

I feel the need to clarify something. I posted this topic because I though there had been some technical issue that had kept me from posting for several days, not because I had any problem with the quality or lack of postings.

LOL - you just didn't know the can of worms that was opening, eh? I figured out after CM's post to you what you had originally meant. But it's all good. The ensuing discussion has been a productive one, at least IMO.

Poor Patcat! See what happens around here? I agree with OBC. Finally we have some action around here. So much better than things being so ho-hum. And everyone has been posting intelligent, civil, interesting points. It's great! So thank you, Pat....
