Well. I liked it. Not the most spectacular LOCI episode, but a solid outing. Jay Mohr was very good. The story was a bit predictable, although I thought it was the son. But it was great to see Goren and Eames--and Mr. D'Onofrio and Ms. Erbe--at the top of their forms. I look forward to the explanation of how they got back.

I agree Patcat. They seemed to be more like they were in the earlier seasons. I loved that Eames had her snark back!!!!
Anyone notice that the new capt. used the phrase "step into him"? Sound familiar?

I agree, Patcat, a solid outing. I was very impressed with Jay Mohr; I thought he handled this role much better than I thought he would. Goren seemed in complete mastery of his detective skills and I appreciated the quirky aspects - the "are you texting us?" the flipping of the LiveStrong or whatever type of bracelets they were... I was a bit irked when the new captain said "step into him" at one point. That's a Deakins thing, imo, lol. ETA: Skittles! I swear I was typing my response as you were typing yours, lol. Happy to see some place/date cards in between scenes. I did like the end walk in the opener with just G/E. I do feel that USA released way too many advance scenes. I felt like I had already seen 1/2 the episode. Of course, I'm a spoiler whore so that's my own fault, but stilll needed to whine about it.

I started this thread to continue discussion of this episode in its appropriate place.
First impression: a solid but not very spectacular episode to mark the return of Goren and Eames. More later.

LOL Great minds think alike! Maybe there were just more spoilers for this one since it was 1rst. There were still some surprises. Funny that there was so much discussion about shrink sessions.

meh. Can't think of anything to say, good or bad. It was just meh. The story was dull, Erbe looks like she has aged 15 years, and Goren is still fat. And they both have bad dye jobs. meh.

A solid outing. I was very impressed with Jay Mohr; I thought he handled this role much better than I thought he would. I actually thought the entire supporting cast was excellent. I've always liked Noelle Beck.
Goren seemed in complete mastery of his detective skills and I appreciated the quirky aspects - the "are you texting us?" the flipping of the LiveStrong or whatever type of bracelets they were...

I thought I saw some foreshadowing when the wife told Goren there was nothing wrong with a happy ever after, not after 20 years of abuse. I liked that touch, and thought that if there had been a shrink scene in this episode, it maybe would've built off that.

Goren and Eames are back and Osama Bin Laden is dead! What a truly great day!

Just transposing my comments from the other thread. meh. Can't think of anything to say, good or bad. It was just meh. The story was dull, Erbe looks like she has aged 15 years, and Goren is still fat. And they both have bad dye jobs. meh.
I wish I could think of something to say besides meh. How about blah? I dunno, I admit, I missed all of Seasons 8 and 9, so I never saw it get truly awful, but I had high hopes. All the hype in the past 2 weeks looks like it was just that.... Disappointing, but hardly surprising. I'll give it one more week, but next week is gonna be TiVO. I am not inspired to schedule the rest of my life around mediocre TV.

I'll be back in later for epi thoughts. I have to watch again on my DVR as I was quite distracted during the first viewing because of Tweeting with Vincent. ;D

My apologies for posting in the wrong place. I really enjoyed having the "old" Goren back, especially as he seems to be back with an invigorated and equal Eames.

Edited to add: The two threads have been merged.

I thought they were great tonight! And Jay Mohr was fabulous! Also recognized a repeat offender - Nyle's wife was the snobby Mrs. William Davenport in S2's "Tomorrow". I really do have to watch again to pick up all the finer points. It was SO good to see them back and see Goren poking bodies again - and Alex making those "ick" faces when she had to be near the first corpse. LOL!

Do you think Tyler (the son) will come out ok?

I liked this episode. It was ripped with a slant. Jay Mohr was very good. What a joy to see the old Goren back with Eames as his "straight" partner! I must watch it again.
Patcat,
That is a good question. The son could have future mental problems.

I liked it for the Goren-isms that were sprinkled liberally throughout the episode. VDO was into his role, which I haven't felt in quite a while.
Was it fantastic? No, but it had me interested, that's for sure. I kept flipping back and forth between the shrink, wife and even the son as the potential killer. Nice to be surprised.
VDO will never look like he did in the early seasons. Neither will Erbe. But I though both looked pretty damn good. And Goren is back in a good fitting, expensive suit.
I liked the new Captain. He also has aged since his stint as the mob hit man way back in "Dead." Therefore, it was easy to accept him in his new role.
Since this was taped as the fourth episode, I though we would see Goren & his shrink? Did they delete that?
