Thanks to J-Fan for supplying S9's cume numbers (in the millions).
As we can see, save for "Loyalty" Parts 1 and 2, the average weekly cume for a S9 episode was slightly under 3 million. The VDO episodes in S8 averaged around 4 million. Better, yes -- but, compared to USA network's bigger hits -- "Burn Notice" for example (which last season usually drew above 5 million weekly) --CI is not impressive. Not in S8, not in S9, and not in S10 (except for the premiere).
If CI didn't do as well as it does in syndication (averaging a 5-6 million cume week) a Season 11 wouldn't even be a good rumor. The networks are always looking for cheaper shows and higher profits. Tthe Comcast crew now running NBCU is reportedly notorious in that regard.
The slight uptick from last week is better than a dip but statistically flat.

Your welcome Annabelle.
Excellent point about looking at the “big hitters” on USA for comparison rather than the show's ratings for previous years to see the competition for LO:CI renewal.
To put it simply - it's common-sense.

Too bad about the networks going for the cheap - playing to the lowest common denominator with so-called "reality TV". Any wonder CI is the only show I even bother to look for. TV is mostly a wasteland.
Blue Bloods is good, but on the bubble and I'm not getting invested in a show that might get cancelled before it gets a second season. Glad I have digital cable. I'd rather watch History or Discovery ID.
Oh wait...can't forget CSI and CSI:NY - like both of those, but I mostly catch them in repeats these days...

Is Blue Bloods the Tom Selleck show on CBS? If so, it's been renewed. CBS announced its schedule today. Discovery ID rocks. Fills the hole in my heart from when CourtTV became TruTV. I love crime stories.

Yep, that's the one! Last night, the article I read was run before CBS announced the final schedule. Good to know! Now I will watch all the repeats this summer! (My sister will be happy - she loves that show! And she was ticked when NBC cancelled Outlaw and ABC cancelled The Whole Truth.)
I know what you mean about the true crime shows. When CourtTV changed formats and became TruTV and bowed to the lowest common denominator with the police-chase-crash-and-burn shows - except for the occasional token showing of Forensic Files or Dominick Dunne's Power Privilege and Justice - I pretty much bailed on them. Discovery ID is great!

Wow after seeing the numbers for last season I feel lucky we even have 8 episodes. LOCI must make a lot of money in syndication. Count me in as one who also loves ID Discovery and hates reality TV. Though I have to confess to a guilty pleasure of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. I normally would never have watched something like that but they were watching it at work and got me sucked into it. I can only equate it to watching a train wreck. Those humongous botox lips both repel and fascinate me!

NBC will start airing the new eps of LOCI on May 30th. I saw a promo for Rispetto during SVU last night. If LOCI gets decent ratings on NBC will that be taken into consideration with the renewal decision? My 10 yr old recently told me I should re-do the kitchen with black granite counter-tops and cherry cabinets. She has been watching "House Hunters"! I used to enjoy "How Clean is Your House" on the BBC channel, but it doesn't come on anymore. I liked it because no matter how messy my house was, it always looked sparkly compared to those! They also gave lots of "recipes" for natural cleaning solutions and stayed away from chemicals. Idget- I indulge in some trash-TV too. It's like junk food for the brain- a little bit is fine if the gray matter is getting plenty of exercise and healthy stuff!

If LOCI gets decent ratings on NBC will that be taken into consideration with the renewal decision?... Yes, the NBC airing is a factor but a minor one. CI is useful as a summer crack-filler on the broadcast network but it will most likely see relatively low ratings. Why do I say this? A pattern of past performance which, statistically, is the best predictor of future performance. The real money is in syndication. The other numbers which will be huge in determining a Season 11 are the concessions Wolf Films gave to NBCU/USA on salaries and production costs, as well as additional distribution rights. Those made S10 possible. NBCU will likely want more of same for a Season 11, and it remains to be seen how far the actors and other principals will go in further cost-cutting. (Lisa Edelstein of "House" -- appropriately I think -- opted out of of that series' new Season 8 because her salary was cut.) AL

It seems to me that VDO is very eager for a Season 11, and if the concessions aren't extreme, will be open to them.
As has been mentioned elsewhere, Dick Wolf will be eager to keep LOCI on the air. And if that means more concessions with NBCU, so be it.
I know Rene Balcer left LOCI with a bitter taste in his mouth. Free from both the mothership and now LOLA, can or would he be more involved in a Season 11 LOCI? Maybe write a few episodes? No one understands Goren more than he, the co-creator.

Zap2it has CI's numbers for "The Last Street in Manhattan" out of the Cable Top 25 with 3.333 million viewers. But again the ratings are skewed by the NBA playoffs which held the top 5 spots (all games) and 8 of the top 25 spots overall including pregames and other related shows on TNT and ESPN. Sunday's Bulls/Heat game on TNT drew 10.889 million viewers.

How sad. The SVU rerun that led into Sunday's CI eppy got better ratings. Too depressing.

How sad. The SVU rerun that led into Sunday's CI eppy got better ratings. Too depressing. Only because people forgot to/or didn't change the channel from the Sunday 9:00 a.m. broadcast. And of course, there is always a SVU marathon any given weekend. Those are repeats and it's cheap for USA to run them...over and over again. I suppose if there is any good news, its that IPS didn't do as well as LOCI.
