"A Murderer Among Us" is my favorite episode of Season 3. If you asked me which ep. from this season deserves an emmy it would be this one.
The final scene with Goren and the suspect left me breathless. I was standing up in front of the television, eyes wide in amazement.
This was a writing and acting tour de force, and I was blown away by it.
Since it's going to be repeated on 4/4, here is a thread to discuss this marvelous episode. I look forward to it.

I have CI plans tonight.
If you see the flick - please give your impressions - I'm not convinced to spend time or money on it yet.

I agree that this episode is one they should send in for Emmy consideration. ALthough, I wonder if they will because it's a "Bishop" episode. It is definitely the most powerful of the season. Bishop works well with Goren in this; I just don't know if it would be a slap in the face to Erbe.

Taking Lives was ok. Better than most movies out there lately. This week CI was not on TV in Toronto, not on CTV anyway: the ten commandments with Yul Brynner was on instead. Now that's a good movie and Yul is at least as manly as Vincent! ;D

This is my favorite episode of S3 as well, even though I'm not overly fond of Bishop.

No? what was your reason for not being in love with Bishop?
I was first not engaged by her overdone cookie-cutter, redhead looks. Then I felt a stiffness in her character (or actress) that I wouldn't think to feel even in a new and temporary partner situation .... hey, if she has been a cop long enough & with a good enough rep to get to major case to fill in ..... then why is so ..... lifeless - pretty much a robot in heels.
Is there a double meaning in this title? The murdering father who walked amoung the family and clients without being suspected - sure. Was there a double meaning title we could have come up with.
The daughter seemed totally not negatively affected to find she had jewish heritage ..... so, her mother did wait until her daughter was able to stand on her own ....
Hurah for the women in this episode.

could the second meaning of the title refer to ex-nazi's and nazi sympathizers who hide their past history and emmigrate to the United states to live among Holocaust survivors?

um - I give you that is an idea with connections to the episode ..... but it really wasn't about nazi's at all, was it? It was really not even about jew hating as I see it .... if the man who had an affair with his mother had been chinese - then I think how this "pathology" developed (how it was presented in the show) - anti-chinese behavior would have been the result - albeit less dramatic since his daughter would not have been part chinese.

Well, this isn't quite a double meaning for the actual title, but other things would fit into "A ______ Among Us." Brody was a murderer, and no one knew (until his wife figured it out). The wife (and hence the daughter) was Jewish and no one knew (including her). The father did not know that his own daughter was not one of "us." In fact he was in total denial that she could be one of "them." To me, an important part of the title could be "us" as opposed to "them." I'm rambling. I'll stop now.

Very clever, Darmok I think another meaning may be in looking at the world through Brody's eyes. He believed a Jew killed his mother, and that he was doing his duty to protect his wife from ever becoming victimized.

Here's my thought, though I'll not back it up until I watch the episode again. (I thought last night was The Gift, ): Didn't the perp actually have Jewish blood? I know his mom was supposedly raped by a Jewish man, but somewhere back in my mind I seem to remember Brody finding out his parents were actually Jews but changed their name. I will make it a point to check the tape.

No, it wasn't Brody himself that had a Jewish heritage, it was his wife. His wife found out that her parents were Jewish when she received their death certificates. She kept it quiet to protect her daughter from him.
Here's my question... did Brody think Goren is Jewish?

Well, that's a question, eh?
so much of the dialog could have been focused as at Jews or at Cops .... both reviled in their own way by others. So - was it jew or cop? Here is where D'Onofrio's actual physical features as opposed to the "character" are making any decision for me very difficult. He looks so quintessentially Italian to me. But then, I have known blond Italians. But then, is jewish a sub-racial physical thing? or a pure religious thing? But then, we all are a bit of a unique mixture ....... a very annoying question, trisha.

There were times when I thought Brody was directing his comments at both Bishop, and Goren (as cops), but in the end he seemed to be just directing his comments at Goren. My thought was that he first meant that Goren was a sympathizer, then it seemed clear that he thought Goren was Jewish, if only by half.
Is it the name? It's not a very Jewish name, though I also agree that last name and looks are not always identifying factors these days. The name Goren makes me think of the very common Baltic name Goran, and that suggests orthodox christian or catholic.
Maybe it was that Goren was in such an adversarial role that made Brody go from thinking he was an annoying, or no good cop, to a Jewish sympathizer, to Jewish.
What do you think?
