I saw one of the first episodes and it was a boring knock off of CSI, which I also find boring. If you like CSI you might like it, though.

Rom, I read all three of your posts, but since my answer is the same to them all & Trisha started an answer here, I'll answer here.
I have only heard of Cold Case & am not interested in watching it at all.
I have not even heard of the other two, but that is not unusual for U.S. TV; we don't tend to import much - the BBC is lucky to have a cable channel & even that is highly picked over as in only a select few shows show up & I am sure they are highly edited for what the freaks running things think we want to see.

BBCAmerica runs a lot of UK shows, and I live close enough to Cananda to get CBC, but I have not seen those shows either.
Bravo runs some good ones, too. I like Keen Eddie a lot. I know nbc ran it for a season, but I'm unclear on whether it was a US or UK production. Anyone know?

Most of what I saw were the PBS imports--"Mystery!", "Mobil Masterpiece Theatre", the occasional "Keeping Up Appearances" or "Home to Roost". I've managed to see one episode of "Keen Eddie", which my mother and brother reccomended to me.
Brother Cadfael was my favorite, Dame Diana Rigg was a classy host. A&E will show some of the Poirot or Morse episodes without the "Mystery" intros. Never saw Morse, Poirot is OK late at night when nothing else is on. I did like the one about the dig in Egypt, being a bit of an archaeology/Egyptology buff.
For those interested in other sides of the actors: Hugh Fraser (Hastings) portrayed a British Government agent with a dark side in "Patriot Games" and David Suchet played a police chief in "A Perfect Murder" with Gwyneth Paltrow.

Rom,
I have watched the show more than I probably would if I still had cable and waiting for LOCI. It seems to have potential, and I think Kathryn Morris is very attractive and intelligent in the show, but I have to agree that it is formulaic and very predictable. As with a lot of CBS shows they seem to go with the glamour as rather than the substance. There seems to be a lack of suspects, and DNA points to the obvious perpatrator.

brining up a long lost thread i have seen some of cold case now that it has started in austarlia. i like it it is a lot better in my oppinion than csi or csi maimi. in some ways it is like without a trace just different. mettela you should at least see one epsidoe if you can and make up your own oppinion. you may be suprised then again you may not. i like kathryn morris this role she is good as the lead chracter and belivable. the only negitive i can see so far is that she really needs a good hairdresser. trisha yes the first espisdoe was little dull but it has gotten better form what i have seen and i must admit your not only who thinks csi is boring i can barley stay awake duing an episode it is that borring and shall we say dull and dreary. regrads all rom.

Hi, Rom, nice to see you again! I agree that Cold Case is MUCH better than either of the first two CSI series. I watched it most weeks for a while, while CSI is an effort to sit through, and I find CSI: Miami completely un-watchable. Watch for some of the bits in Cold Case that are… reminiscent… of Criminal Intent. You’ll see the lead – Lilly? Is that her name? – do some very Gorenesque maneuvers, including an interrogation room maneuver where she’s behind the suspect (who is seated at the table) and she bends from the hips to whisper into his ear about his pathology. Sound familiar? And her partner has someone close to him who has schizophrenia… I didn’t keep watching long enough to find out who it was. I thought the show had potential, and you’re right, there’s something about it that’s similar to Without a Trace. I keep meaning to watch another episode, but I keep not getting around to it. Maybe you’ll inspire me to actually watch it again.

I find "Cold Case" to be OK, good for watching when there is not much on. It's set in Philadelphia but it's actually shot in LA. For you fans, here is an interesting article. "..more of a whydunnit than a whodunnit" is exactly the statement Vincent D'Onofrio, Rene Balcer, and Dick Wolf have made about LOCI. Of course, as you know, I am partial to the latter. D. ********** www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/10/01/earlyshow/contributors/lauriehibberd/main576020.shtmlThe Ice Queen of 'Cold Case' PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 1, 2003 Jerry Bruckheimer, executive producer of three very successful crime dramas - "CSI," "CSI Miami," and "Without A Trace" - now has a fourth called "Cold Case," which debuted Sunday with 15 million viewers. While those other shows all have ensemble casts, "Cold Case" revolves around a female lead played by Kathryn Morris. Morris recently told The Early Show entertainment contributor Laurie Hibberd that is just one of the things that make her show different. “I think what's different about ‘Cold Case’ is that it's much more of a whydunit as opposed to a whodunit," she says. Morris plays Lily Rush, the lone female detective in Philadelphia's homicide unit, who finds she has a knack for solving long-abandoned, or "cold," murder cases Morris says, “It's really less of a show about latex gloves. And it's really much more about the emotional underbelly of what motivates people to commit a crime, hide a crime, be a bystander. They kind of know something, but are afraid to come forward. Or really wanted to say something and someone else is keeping them down. “ While preparing for the role, Morris met with a female detective in Philadelphia. She learned that a female officer's brain is mightier than her brawn. “It's very appealing to see a character that has sort of an inner strength and an intellectual and emotional tap on how to get to the person before he gets to this," Morris says, making a karate chop with her hands. Morris can relate to her character's strength, too. She says, “I just think that the women that I admire and that I've modeled myself and I hope to become are just women that have a strong inner core. And I just think that when you're training, that you should really learn to develop to play a whole woman. It doesn't have to be pushy or aggressive to get ahead. But is strong in herself and confident in her skill and in her femininity as well.” Costar Jeremy Ratchford says that mix of confidence and femininity can be very intimidating. “I always say she's not tough," he says. "She's cool, though. I say that she could stare down a grizzly bear or make a crocodile shiver. She's that cool. There's a scene in the pilot. She has a showdown in the police parking lot. And this guy tries to get up on her and she makes Clint Eastwood look like, you know, a hack.” Morris has been a Philly resident for a while. With a laugh, she says, “I lived in a row home with several college kids and a stockbroker who owns the house and liked a bunch of kids to just sort of fill up all of those rooms. So it worked out. I used to work at a bar down the street, passing out Rolling Rock's for $2.” And look at her now. You can see "Cold Case" on Sunday nights at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on CBS

Cold Case is my second favorite show, right behind Law & Order CI. It actually pretty much killed my CSI addiction, because I found that I liked it much better. The lead actress is very much the star, but I like the whole cast. What I really like is the merging of the old cases with the present. I find that endlessly fascinating.
Oh, and no show has a better soundtrack. No way, no how, not a chance.

Hi Rom, I like the show too, I just discovered it recently. I think too Kathryn Morris is a beautiful woman in need of new hairdo. Who knows, maybe they wanted to play down her looks. I particularly like the ending of the show when they play a nostalgic song. The one week they played "Over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo. Never heard that version before. It was beautiful. Another week they had an older song that sounded as if it was released in the 40's. I didn’t get the name of that song. I really wish, they would list the songs in the credits at the end of the show. Yeah I like the show

Hey Cassie, Aren't you glad I told you about Cold Case being so good? A great show to watch just before Criminal Intent comes on...Been watching Cold Case since it came on.... Her hair drives me a little crazy too, but I've seen her on interviews with her hair down, and she is a beautiful woman. Maybe they ARE playing down her looks for the show.... Shadow

I just got really hooked on Cold Case last spring. There are a lot of episodes that I find are a LOT better than some of the CSIs.
The charactes could use a little more fleashing out, I like some more back-story on them. And I do like that we might actually "get" some more personal backstory on these characters - as some crime dramas won't do that.
But I think my favorite feature of Cold Case is the music! It has got to have one of the best music departments of any show on! All the oldies, the new stuff...all mixed in with the flash backs. I've been known to crank up the volume on certain eps...just to jam to the song in that scene. *grin*
