You've got to be kidding. In this case, LOCI is a soap because it's clear that Goren is a female issue!

I remember in the early days of LOCI one of the commercials during the show was for "Victoria Secret" underwear. All these beautiful woman dressed up in sexy stuff, with Bob Dylan's very provocative song "I Can't Wait" playing in the background. I always felt that the reason why they played that commercial during LOCI was because of the popularity of Det Bobby Goren among the female viewers. You got to hear Bob Dylan sing it….to really appreciate it I can't wait, wait for you to change your mind It's late; I'm trying to walk the line Well it's way past midnight and there are people all around Some on their way up, some on their way down The air burns and I'm trying to think straight And I don't know how much longer I can wait
I'm your man; I'm trying to recover the sweet love that we knew You understand that my heart can't go on beating without you Well, your loveliness has wounded me, I'm reeling from the blow I wish I knew what it was keeps me loving you so I'm breathing hard, standing at the gate But I don't know how much longer I can wait
Skies are grey, I'm looking for anything that will bring a happy glow Night or day, it doesn't matter where I go anymore; I just go If I ever saw you coming I don't know what I would do I'd like to think I could control myself, but it isn't true That's how it is when things disintegrate And I don't know how much longer I can wait
I'm doomed to love you, I've been rolling through stormy weather I'm thinking of you and all the places we could roam together
It's mighty funny; the end of time has just begun Oh, honey, after all these years you're still the one While I'm strolling through the lonely graveyard of my mind I left my life with you somewhere back there along the line I thought somehow that I would be spared this fate But I don't know how much longer I can wait.

AHHHHH! The unspeakable. NOOOO! Well, what the heck, if Nicole keeps returning, I can use LOCI to wash my cloth. Ok, since my name is mentioned on the original thread, I think I should be making a little comments. To be honest, I like some of the older soaps. Can't name any specifically, but I actually watched alot while I was on cruises (yeah, that's the only thing they play when it's one in the morning and I can't sleep). Soaps are more like mirrors reflecting the political issues during that time period. And LOCI? Well, it's a really twisted boarder line good crime drama/bad soap. And yes, Bobby Goren is very much a female issue. I think most of the female LOCI fans out there are after him, that is, including myself. The character himself is not very much a lady's man, but I can tell that if he tried, he'd be very good at it. I was just wondering to myself what would it be like if I had him as a pet. That would be so nice, a six-feet-four pet wearing size 13 shoes (sorry, just can't seem to let it go). What animal would it be? I sorta see him as a teddybear, a nice, sweet, comforting and protective creature.

We had our members pitch in and take note of the commericial somewhere along season 2 - I think? So we could see if there was a large - across country trend in the sponsors.
At least at that time it shoots your Soap theory to shreads - nearly all the commericals were for very nice cars.

Well, in Spain advertising works a little bit different. Here we have 1 commercial break for every program that lasts about 25 minutes (Simpsons, sitcoms) and 2 breaks for the programs that last 45 minutes (ER). Movies have a few breaks depending on how long the movie is. Breaks can last from 5 to 20 minutes so we made the act of switching channels an art and we all do it at the same time because all the stations have the breaks at the same time. Publicity is not so focused on the audience because the audience that is watching that program never watches the commercials, they go to the bathroom, prepare dinner, walk the dog, etc. 20 minutes are very long. So we could say that commercials are slightly oriented to a certain audience that could be watching that program but they put a bit of everything because all the audiences of all the stations get mixed, all are switching channels at once. And I find very interesting what you said about the word Soap, and now it looks very logical. The question is...why 'opera'?, nobody fat sings at the end (yes, it´s lame but it´s getting late here).

Interesting.Wheres the thread for that survey? Eleana, are you saying LOCI is a female issue? i thought it was crime story telling. I'm kidding saying that it's a soap because of what Spaniard said. On the other hand, it would become a soap if Nicole keeps returning. The "bad gets away and haunts the good" is just not very fun for a crime drama, although it is very typical for soaps. You've got to be kidding. In this case, LOCI is a soap because it's clear that Goren is a female issue!

I always felt they used the word "opera" because the storylines went on and on, dragging the drama out, just like the fat lady singing holding on to that last note of her song. Here's an article that might be of interest. www.museum.tv/archives/etv/S/htmlS/soapopera/soapopera.htmYears ago, I used to watch "All My Children", I forget what the whole storyline was about. But everything was falling into place. the high drama, Alex had his hands on the throat of Arlene, strangling her, because she was going to betray him. with that her daughter Hayley walked into the bedroom. watching her friend trying to kill her mother. Then all of a sudden " we interrupt this program to take you to the Courthouse in Los Angeles, where the verdict of the OJ Simpson trial will be revealed" talk about flipping out! who cares! I could not believe it. The moment everyone was waiting for. Alex getting caught doing a dirty deed!! the next day, the show opened up with the actresses who played Brooke, saying that they could not believe all of the phone calls they received by the fans because the show was cut short due to the history making moment in Los Angeles. They replayed the entire show for all of the fans! Which was greatly appreciated
