Awe come on, Techguy, Wesley wasn't that annoying! ;D In my crystal ball I see a new NBC show premiering in the fall, a cross between "Star Trek" and "Survivor." In the first episode, the tribe votes Wesley off the Enterprise an into a black hole. Seeing Leonard Nimoy once again be Spock, even for a brief glimpse, would peak my interest in checking out the movie. Shatner, I can take or leave. I would enjoy seeing Leonard Nimoy reprise Spock again too. (Come to think of it, I would enjoy seeing LN joining the ST alum parade and do a CI guest star role, too!) As for Shatner, he's too busy doing those travel website ads, I don't see him getting back in a ST uniform anytime soon. Not that he would fit in one.

Oh my gosh, Techguy!! Where did you get your Kirk and Spock? They look like the little Lego men my brother used to obsess over--don't be offended if I say that they're cute! And the Enterprise!! Sorry, I gush.
One of my friends told me that Kirk dies in "Generations" (wasn't that the first TNG movie?), so I doubt Shatner could come back if it wasn't a prequel or alternate universe or some such. I'd love to catch a glimpse or two of Spock, it's a pity that we can't see Scotty and McCoy one last time. (Sniff.) Even one of the more supporting roles like Uhura, Sulu, or Chekhov. If you wanted to get really obscure, Nurse Chapel, Yeoman Rand and Lt. Kyle, or one of the more famous guest stars but I'm guessing there are fewer of them left. I know that Frank Gorshin died, Khan was killed off so Ricardo Montalban is out, Mark Lenard died, and the only other memorable one I can think of is Mudd or Edith Keeler--and I really can't think of a legitimate way to work them in. Again, my Tekker base is pretty confined to TOS so someone else will have to jump in for the later series. I didn't see enough TNG to have definite opinions, very little of Wesley, what I saw of Data he was pretty good, a very interesting foil character. (By the way, Television Without Pity has some amusing/fun threads for all the Star Trek variations. Even an igmo like myself gets a kick out of "Shut Up Wesley!".)
Has there not been talk of doing movies for the other spinoffs, like DS9 or Voyager? That would be most logical, it seems to me, but then, we know how irrational humans can be.

PS: Of course, if we wanted to be really cheeky and ensure cross-over franchise success, "Law & Order: The Final Frontier"! Put Ed Green, Alex Eames, and John Munch in a starship! The Starfleet 27 Major Special Case Unit responsible for enforcing the Prime Directive and resenting interference from the Fed(eration)s. Van Buren and The Sisko gettin' it done! Tutuola and Worf break bad on somebody! Goren and Chekhov debate the accuracy and importance of regional dialects/accents! Hey, after all the spinoffs branching from each of those, it's simply the natural follow-up. Simply insert CHUNG-CHUNG into whatever theme they use, and voyl-uh, success.

"Law & Order: The Final Frontier"! ;D LOL! Good scenario, Catbird. Admiral Janeway and the Voyager people were supposed to take over from the TNG crew, but since the movies did crap, I guess that never materialized. It would great seeing The Sisko, too.

To be accurate, Techguy came up with the title "Law & Order: The Final Frontier" back in a thread about DVD voting. It was part of a very funny bit combining the mission statements, which garnered him much adoration long before he was declared Grand Poobah of Polls. (I can't remember the specific thread, but I have to give credit. I'm a student of humanities; to quote my roommate: "You can BS all you want but don't you dare plagiarize!")

One of my friends told me that Kirk dies in "Generations" (wasn't that the first TNG movie?), so I doubt Shatner could come back if it wasn't a prequel or alternate universe or some such. NikkiGreen and Catbird, I searched the Delta quadrant and found those ST smileys! ;D
Yes, "Generations" is the first ST movie with ST:TNG cast (this is the one with Malcolm McDowell in it too). Kirk and Scotty are in it from TOS to provide crossover.
Yes, Kirk dies but as for a prequel return in a future ST--have you seen Shatner lately? A prequel would have to occur earlier in ST history, and frankly, Shatner would be out of place and time age-wise.
An alternative universe scenario is possible, or maybe some explanation that residual "Genesis wave effect" could work too. Spock was resurrected this way, so I suppose Kirk could be reincarnated as well. To be accurate, Techguy came up with the title "Law & Order: The Final Frontier" back in a thread about DVD voting. Did I say that? Your memory is a lot better than mine!
ETA: While I'm on the subject of ST, a couple other alums who should make excellent CI guest stars: Rene Auberjonois (Odo) and Marc Alaimo (Gul Dukat) from DS9.

Under General CI Discussion, thread titled "Vote for CI-and get results". We were trying to come up with a name for the fans who enjoy both Trek and L&O (and Dick Wolf can just go pound sand). And of course, Sir Techguy of the Arid Wit came in; apologies cause I don't know how to quote box from another thread.
Law & Order: The Final Frontier Fans These are the voyages of the NYPD. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new plots, to seek out new perps and new guest stars, to boldly go where no police procedural has ever gone before.
I still think we need Wolf's Red Shirt Repeat Offenders t-shirts.

Ah...now that I see the quote in writing, I remember it now. And Dick Wolf can get for dissing Trek fans. Catbird, I guess people like us who enjoy both ST and L&O must have split personalities. DW would have us believe the L&O half is smarter than the ST half?

One of the librarians I work with is also a historian/folklorist with an interest in the culture of fans. She noted that there is something of a hierarchy where STAR TREK fans are despised by everyone. But even the STAR TREK fans look down on STAR WARS fans.

To be accurate, Techguy came up with the title "Law & Order: The Final Frontier" ... Then, with due apologies to Techguy for my error. I don't get a chance to hang out here too much (or watch the show, for that matter) and I missed out the original posts. I guess there's a good reason why TWoP wants you to have read at least the last 15 pages, eh?! BTW, which is supposed to be our ST side and which is our L&O side? ;D ETA: Abrams Slams 'Star Trek' Rumors

Well, if I had cited Techguy properly there wouldn't have been that confusion, and it was on an older, completely different thread. No harm no foul.
Techguy, I don't think it's split personalities. I like Star Trek for the same reason I like any TV show/movie: good stories, good characters. Dick Wolf has just struck me as pretty arrogant, period, so I was less than pleased with his comment that Star Trek fans were dumber than L&O fans. Does he not realize how much overlap there is? It's way beyond alien make-up and phasers, Dick: social commentary, references to the classics, provoking issues that make you think, you know, the way he prides himself that L&O does. Star Trek VI: Hamlet + Chernobyl + The Cold War. Star Trek IV: Environmentalism. "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield": racism. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one, or the needs of the one outweigh the needs of the many. Beat that with a stick!
I just think that conventions--costumes, speaking Klingon, etc.--give us an image that really isn't applicable to the majority. (Although part of me wants to learn Klingon just so I can yell something at idiot drivers and feel satisfied with myself!)
Patcat, to quote one no-name comedian I saw on Comedy Central, the sci-fi people are not the worst. "You wanna know how deep you have to go in the Dork Forest to get to the reenactors? You have to skirt the edges of Star Wars, bypass the Trekkies, fly over Harry Potter, blaze through Dungeons and Dragons, and only then do you reach the Civil War reenactors. They're my friends, I speak from experience." Hee!

Very nice, Catbird! I feel so much better now. It wouldn't just do for my right side to be dumber than my left side. Or, vice versa. ;D
