hey all i have jsut been watching some of the new poirot films recently( with david suchet). they are great. i think there are few similarites between poirot and goren personality wise. i mean goren is a lot like a more modern version of poirot with a tinge of sherlock holmes thrown in. i think david suchet has recently become shall we say a little portly( i mean earlier it was more like he was using a pillow or something for effect but now it seems more natural). the only bother i have is recntly poirot has seemed to lost to a degree his tradmark walk( i mean it is such a classic character quirk). i like the way the poirot moives are done they might alter things a little from the books but they really give a certain feel to it. i particularly enjoyed the one were alexander sidding( bashir from deep space nine) was playing a kind of creepy person who set up his own murder. now the superintendent was caught rather embrassing situation i might say( though one question does anybody know how he knew victims nationality, i mean it was kind of strange). another good one was the mystery on the blue train, it was very intresting. i like the way agatha christe sets her characters and stories they have all got a certain stlye to them i mean the eccentic poirot and the old motherly eccentric miss marple( who is i would somewhat batty but very intelligent and observent). oh well more later. reagrds rom.

Oh, rom! What would we do without our batty-but-intelligent detectives, right??? My mom LOVES both characters and faithfully watches for their movies. She's read all the books and even got me curious about them when I was younger so I'll watch sometimes, too.

I'm not a big fan of Christie (not that it's likely to bother her (g)), perhaps because I read Sayers and Marsh and James first.
But David Suchet's performance as Poirot is amazing--he makes a real human being out of a caricature.

Patcat you needn't worry to much about agatha christie bother about you not liking her books given that she is just a tad on the dead side, i doubt shed combe back and haunt you to much. as for david suchet i agree with you that is a great actor and plays the pefectly. but i dont think poirot is a caricature, just that he has often played by people that make him a caricature( if you get my drfit). i think poirot as a character is a play on the prejudces at the particular time ( after all he is a french speaking belgin with odd habits in a forigen country). i he is a an intresting character that is a lot more than meets the eye. reagrds rom.
