Season 3 beginning in June. Anyone else seen it? FX has had a couple of marathons from first two seasons.
Denis Leary writes, produces and stars. All stories have some basis in fact, stories he's gotten from FDNY.

This is a great show with excellent writing and outstanding acting. Denis Leary really shines.
FX is currently showing 2 or 3 episodes, in order, every Saturday night. They are at the 5th or 6th episode of the first season.

Is Tatum O'Neal a regular? Not so far. She was only in 1 or 2 episodes, playing Denis Leary's sister... Perhaps she'll show up again in the new season...

What do you think of the episode where Tommy rapes his wife? I have not seen it but read about it at tvbarn.com.
Leary says his female friends have been through it say it's "no big deal". (Paraphrasing)

(Paraphrasing) I really liked this show the first season but this year it has become such an overblown soap opera. As for seeing the "episode" FX is very good about having marathons of episodes of the current season in order to allow viewers to catch up to say the "last episodes of the season" They also start over and show old episodes when a regular season is not running.

(Paraphrasing) I could not have been more disgusted by that whole scene! Leary can explain or defend until he's blue in the face, but married or not, throwing someone onto a couch and forcing yourself on them while they punch and beg you to stop, is rape. And then to make matters worse, about half way through, his wife starts to enjoy it! Ugh! And I can't imagine any woman thinking being violated like that is no big deal. It has definitely changed my opinion of the character and the show.

I have many friends who love this show, so I gave it another try. Saw the ep where seven kids are killed in a house fire. I think it was actually named Seven. Anyway, it was very good UNTIL the very end, when he holds that adorable baby (its his son, right?) over the railing & over the River. You're supposed to believe that he's going to murder the baby because his alter ego told him to.
I was horrified. I'm assuming he didn't do it But God Almighty, why the shock value? To me, that end scene was ten times worst than the goriest horror movie. Leary's character rescues 100 people a year from fires. So what, he's still a sick jerk for holding a baby like that.

People holding babies over ledges for shock value--hmmmm, where have we seen that one recently?! *s*
(in Bombshell)

I started off liking this show, but it became wildly uneven. It seems to be doing things for the shock of doing them, not because it makes sense to the stories or characters. It's unfortunate, because when this show is good, it's really good.

On this show, maybe because I don't really know the character, I was horrified because I thought he really was going to do it. It was very realistic. Does anyone know what happened after that? What happened to the baby?

You know, this is a show I gave a couple of chances early on, but it just didn't engage me. Or maybe I should say Denis Leary didn't engage me. I was a fan of his standup long long ago, but as an actor he just doesn't work for me. If there is one thing I love a great deal, it's a Bad Guy with depth who makes you think. A Bad Guy who through his charisma you find yourself rooting for and wanting to see more of (a perfect example would be Al Swearengen from Deadwood)....Leary just never gets there for me. I had the same problem with his first show...the cop one that was part drama, part comedy. He tries to always be the anti-hero, but I don't think he has enough dimension as an actor to pull it off. I find the harshness always outweighs any other conflicting qualities he tries to bring to his performance. Or, you know, maybe he really is just trying to play a complete asshat. But it always becomes uninteresting very quickly for me, regardless.
