Because Sir Derek Jacobi is just amazing...for my birthday this year my parents gave me the whole collection on DVD! (They figured 21 was a special occassion.) Hooray! I love the medieval setting, the recurring characters are terrific.
For those interested, the DVD is not overburdened with special features, but a few nice little tidbits. Some still photos from the production (including Ellis Peters visiting the set), filmographies for the actors, and short little commentaries by Sir Derek Jacobi on each disc. Not running through the films, but a few minutes about various topics such as Cadfael and women, filming in Budapest, and embarassing moments with the little toupees they made to compensate for the tonsures. I've only watched a few episodes form the first season so far, but I'm looking forward to more.

For quite a few years, I was lucky enough to sing at the local renaissance fair here. (It's a big deal, done in the huge and uique way Texans love.) I'm saying this to say that period acuuracy is a pet peeve of mine. (nerd) The Brother Cadfael mysteries were almost always painfully accurate and detailed. Of course, I especially enjoyed the music.
