"Cracker ITV1 – Robbie Coltrane returns for the first new drama about the police psychologist since 1996. A new series in 2007 will follow a 2006 special in which Fitz returns after 10 years in Australia for his daughter’s wedding and ends up helping the police hunting the killer of an American comic in Manchester. Mama loved this. Hopefully PBS will get hold of it after some delay, I think that's who showed it initially on our side of the pond. WGBH Boston I think has most of the links with "Mystery!" and "Masterpiece Theatre", and they just feed it out to local stations.

TV Guide Q and A (print edition)
"I just watched the British show Cracker on DVD and there was a lot left hanging. I heard a new installment is in production. Any idea when it will air?
The great Robbie Coltrane will return in a new TV movie "Cracker : A New Terror" airing October 30 on BBCAmerica."

Cracker : New Terror just aired on BBCAmerica last month. I read where there may be another Cracker in the future. The ending to this episode left an opening for future episodes.

Any chance PBS will pick this up for Mystery!/Masterpiece Theatre? BBC is paid subscription so we're out.

I was able to check out many of the Cracker episodes at my local library since many public libraries will purchase PBS or BBC things since many of those titles are not found at the regular video stores. Currently The Biography Channel is airing a few of the British mysteries like Poirot, Sherlock Holmes, and new Midsomer Murders on Sundays. Their parent channel A&E used to air Cracker episodes and the episodes of many good British mysteries before it became a reality show channel for the most part.
