Anybody gonna give it a try? It doesn't sound like my style of show, but the youngest plays football, and you know a mother's love...

It does not sound like my type of show either. I have liked Kyle Chandler in other shows but I am not too keen on football and it is on against 2 of my favorite shows : NCIS and House. It does lead in to L&O:CI so I hope it gets a few good viewers to help CI since CI has not had a sturdy lead in since it debuted 5 years ago.

Its an okay show. I do think they go overboard on how the entire town lives for those games, and also on how hard the players train. If coaches at the schools around here got kids out of bed in the middle of the night to train in the pouring rain, there would be lawsuits up the you-know-what. Then again, maybe those coaches should work for the Cleveland Browns.

Having spent some time living and working in Texas, I can attest to the near-fanatical attention bordering on religion that is given to high school football. I don't know if the coaches get the boys up in the middle of the night. But I do know that on Monday mornings where I worked, nobody talked about the pros (Cowboys or then-Oilers) or the college teams (the Longhorns or the Aggies); the topic was the high school games played on Friday night. It's humorous but also a bit scary how most folks lived and died with the outcome under the Friday night lights.

I've been watching this show with The Youngest (he's a football player). Hubby loves the show, (one of the few he doesn't fall asleep to) and even listens to the re-cap on sports radio the next day! Hubby played Texas high school and college football, and he says that this show is pretty close to what he experienced. They really do this stuff-- pray before and after games, practice in 100+ degree heat, live, breathe, eat, sleep, football. I've lived in alot of different places, and I've never seen the like (not even with soccer!).

It's already jumped the shark for me. It's become the predictable who's sleeping with whom. The only bright light is the Smash Williams character.

I wish some of the posters here would give Friday Night Lights another try. It has been moved to Wednesday evenings at 8:00 pm. The characters have become more multi-dimensional, IMO. And although the premise is football, the character development & emotional plot lines make that incidental.
No show, not even CI, has ever had me in tears at the end of a episode like this show has.

I think Locifan really liked this show. I watched at the beginning - not bad but not riveting.

The LA Times reports that NBC has renewed "Friday Night Lights."'Friday Night Lights' ordered back on field
It’s a TOUCHDOWN for NBC’s “Friday Night Lights"! The Texas football drama — its about much more than football — has been renewed for a full second season. No word yet on what night NBC will air a show that has struggled in the ratings (against stiff-armed competition) but quickly became one of the season’s biggest critical darlings. Kudos go to NBC President of Entertainment Kevin Reilly, a big fan of the show, for showing patience and letting the fans spend a little more time with Coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler) and the Dillon Panthers.

I'm never going to watch this show regularly--I dislike football on any level (I'm sorry--I don't really care that the Colts won the Super Bowl and still think they're a drain on the Indianapolis economy), and the mania on sports at the high school level worries me--but the episodes I've seen of it have impressed me. It is a good show, and NBC has actually done something right by renewing it.
