Here is Matt Roush take on Raines when he answered a question at TV Guide. Question: Am I the only person on the planet who enjoys Raines? I think it's interesting and funny, and I have always liked Jeff Goldblum. The previews for this week's show, where the victim doesn't speak English and does the macarena, looks hysterical. I saw in your review that you gave it a 6. Have you seen more episodes? Do you still think it's worth watching?— Matt Roush: So far, not unlike my ambivalent 6 rating, the reaction in my mail has been mostly mixed. Some were charmed by it. Some thought it was just strange, off-putting, slow or obvious. All of which seems fair. Most are curious to see if it can survive the move to Fridays. (Doubtful.) I watched the first two episodes, all that was sent in advance, before weighing in. I stick to my description that the show is "aggressively quirky," offbeat enough to merit a look but maybe not compelling enough to keep the masses coming back. I'd like to be pleasantly surprised and see it become a Medium-size hit, but that's probably a long shot. I didn't watch October Road, but he gave it a 0, only because his editor wouldn't let him give it a -10. I know its just one guys opinion, but I know some where worried about Raines replacing CI, I just don't see it. www.tvguide.com/News-Views/Columnists/Ask-Matt/default.aspx

Thank you, ragincajun, for the article. It's good to hear that Raines isn't a definite replacement for CI. Especially if they are considering airing it on Friday evenings. Is that in place of the Mothership? If CI isn't renewed, would the plan be to move the Mothership CI's spot, as a lead in for SVU?
God Forbid.

I read where it did increase viewers in the second half hour which is unheard of for most new NBC shows outside of Heroes. The test will be for the next 5 Fridays when it airs against Close To Home.

Not only how this show does against "Close To Home" but as a lead-in for L&O mothership.
I'm wondering if the Friday placement and performance will be the litmus test for whether Raines gets picked up for next season and/or the mothership is renewed.
